Velocette MAC for full restoration. I responded to an auction on ebay for this machine around two years ago and was the successful bidder. When I eventually collected the machine I realised that the seller was somewhat economical with the description. it being in far worse condition than I was lead to believe. I have not started any work on the machine and now wish to sell as I am hoping to move shortly and do not have the time to restore it or the room to store it. I will try to provide an honest description so any would be bidders (unlike me) will have a good idea as to what they will be bidding for. The machine was registered in 1952 and although there is no V5. I do have a letter from Cambridge C. C. confirming the registration date and the registration number. engine and frame numbers. although I have yet to find the latter number on the frame. The frame is one that has the large casting under the gearbox instead of the bottom frame rails. something I understand was to do with a tubing shortage at the time. It is in generally good order with just areas of light pitting. it has not been checked for alignment though. The front forks are in similar condition. The front wheel is just a carrier. its origin I do not know. The original front hub. brake plate and shoes are present. The front mudguard is in fair condition with some dents but the stays are quite pitted and the flat mid stay is fractured. Headlight is good with original ammeter and switch but the rim is dented and grazed where it has been down the road on it's side. Glass is o. k. Speedo glass is broken and face is obliterated. salvageable for spares only. Handlebars and leavers are rusty but restorable. Petrol tank has a couple of dents but is solid. Rear wheel is original and looks o. k. Painted rim is rusty. Rear mudguard is in poor condition being split and dented. Stays are pitted. Rear stand once grit blasted should restore o. k. I should mention that someone has cut off the lugs for the saddle springs so these will need to be made and blazed on. Rear chain guard is o. k. The gearbox front cover is broken but I have what looks like a NOS replacement cover. The original engine is in pieces and has damage to the timing side casting. hopefully visible in the photos. everything is there but needs work. Primary chain cases have slight damage but are restorable. Altogether sounds like a basket case but the good news is that a have sourced a good deal of new and second hand parts. these being:- A complete and assembled 1952 engine. less mag. but one is with the original engine Two complete spare gearboxes Two Clutches A spare petrol tank. superior to the one that came with the bike An excellent restored front mudguard New rear mudguard Refurbished oil tank New gaskets. rubbers. s/s fork top nuts and other small new bits and pieces New tool box I've tried to give an accurate description and in doing so have probably made the machine sound worse than it actually is. I think the only major parts missing are the exhaust pipe. outer dynamo belt cover and the final drive sprocket cover but these are obtainable from the Velocette owners club spares scheme. I have no buy it now price and wish the auction to run to the end. I have spent a considerable sum on the machine and spares so have put what I think is a reasonable reserve on it. but please do not ask what it is. thanks. Cash on collection please.
