Description

hi this is an excelsior empire 150  with a villiers twin port engine and burman 3 speed gearbox some scources claim it was only made for one year to take advantage of tax cuts for 150 and under motorcycles which makes it a very rare model.    i bought this off a chap who had it tied up in a barn roof for years to preserve the tyres he sold it to me on condition that i would get it running before i ever sold it. i did have offers as it was but a promise is a promise so i have now got it running and i am happy with it .  the photos are after coming back from a run sunday morning it didnt miss a beat ran perfect and i guess it was cruising along at around 45 on 2 thirds throttle . i am really pleased with the way its turned out . the paint is in fair condition unrestored you can do that if you wish the engine has a new barrell and piston from villiers services. i scourced another crank with good big end from an ad in the vmcc journalthe magneto has new points condensor and coil and remagnetised . the gearbox has been rebuilt with a new bearing and sprocket.  the wheels are respoked the bearings cleaned and greased  and brakes relined. new tyres and tubes fitted as the old ones werent saved after all and were perishedthe tank was cleaned out the carb stripped and cleaned.  the saddle is original just washed with soap and water. the v5 is in my name and the old green log book is presentthis bike has the original somerset registration no. which is transferable though i hope you keep it with the bikeall the old tax discs were in the holder and are preserved in a folder from 1939 to 48 the 1949 one is still in the holder from when it was last on the roadi also have the recent tax disc which was one of the last issued and i have it now on historic tax. i am an engineer whose main love is to restore and build old bikes i have been doing this for 40 years. yes i like to ride them to but as ive got 3 more projects in the shed sadly this has to go.  ps i told the chap  i would ride it round to show him. but i called the number he gave me which was a few years ago and it was a dead number. #
