1970 Velosolex 3800 De Luxe blue in excellent running order.

I am selling this 1970 Velosolex 3800 De Luxe model. It is in excellent running order and is a rare model seldom available in the UK.

The first Velosolex was built in 1945 and was created as a way to get the French population mobile again after the end of the second world war. It must have done trhe job quite well as over 12 million were built when production ended in France in 1974. There were several different models over the years. This particular bike is a 1970 3800 De Luxe. The Velosolex club UK have an excellent website and organise rideouts around the country. This bike will make an excellent rideout bike or for everyday bike but in a very rare colour.

Until 1970 all Velosolexes  were black. In 1970 a couple of new models were introduced to modernise the range. This was coupled with some new colour schemes. The Deluxe was also fitted with stainless steel mudguards. white petrol tank and flywheel cover and colour coded headlamp surround. All the unusual and difficult to find parts are present. Mechanically it is identical to a standard 3800 so parts are easy to get. If you want a slightly unusual model but still easy to run this could be for you.

Mechanically it is spot on having had a thorough engine overhaul and new cables. It starts within one metre as a good Velosolex should and rides well. Cosmetically it has plenty of signs of wear and tear. The paintwork is original with plenty of scatches and signs of use but looks perfectly presentable for a 43 year old bike. The chrome on the handlebars could be better but again looks about right for an old moped.   The back wheel is a little better than the front. It has a nice pair of period panniers that match the bike colour nicely. The headlamp is new.

There is no log book with the bike as until recently these bikes never required registration in France. I will supply a French cession de Vehicle certificate and a receipt in French and English that will make registration in the UK a simple affair. There are no taxes or duties payable as the bike has come from within the EU.

Please note that the bike is at present in the town of Chabris in the Indre (36) department of central France. For a price of ??40 I can arrange delivery to the Worthing area a few days after the end of the auction. For the same price you can collect the bike from the Kempton Park auto jumble on the 6th of December in south west London. Other delivery destinations are available but please email me for a price. Alternatively you are welcome to come to France to collect the bike and I will offer the winning bidder one nights free accommodation in our B&B.

I can store the bike for a reasonable period if needed. Payment is by cash on collection or by cleared sterling cheque if you are having the bike delivered. If you are unsure about a payment method please contact me as I can always sort something out.
