Description

I am selling this 1960 Motoconfort AU44 French moped. It is totally complete and very tidy having had a pretty good cosmetic renovation. It came to me as part of a small collection of bikes from a deceased estate near Chateauroux. It is not my normal fare so I don't know an awful lot about these bikes. It seems to be in good condition and not far off running. The engine turns over with excellent compression. Please study the photos as they give a good idea of the general condition. There is a box of spare odds and ends and a spare headlamp and petrol tank. The box also contains the two metal badges spelling Motoconfort for the body plus the badge missing from the petrol tank.

By the time this bike was built Motobecane and Motoconfort were amalgamated into the same company. The company then became MBK and finally disappeared after being taken over by Yamaha in 1984. From the 1930s onwards the company used the Motoconfort name as a badge engineering exercise.

The bike has a French log book stating that it was first registered in 2012. This was when it became a legal requirement to register mopeds in France. After a quick internet search I think the bike is 1960 or earlier. The frame number is 3720452 so perhaps someone out there can date it more accurately. I found an identical bike in France with a frame number beginning 42***** that was a 1960 model and I have dated my bike accordingly.

Overall this is a very tidy bike that does not require a lot more work to finish. The paintwork has to done to a very reasonable standard.

I will supply the bike with a French cession de vehicle certificate which together with the log book will make registering the bike in the UK  straight forward. There is a Motobecane/motoconfort specialist at the VMCC who can supply a dating certificate.

Please note that this bike is at present in the town of Chabris in the Indre department (36) of central France. For a price of ??40 I can arrange delivery to the Worthing area a few days after the end of the auction. You can. for the same price collect the bike from the Kempton Park autojumble on December 6th in South west London. Other delivery destinations are available but please email me for a price. Alternatively you are welcome to come to France to collect the bike  and I will offer the winning bidder one nights free accommodation in our B&B.

Payment is by cash on collection if you are coming to get the bike or by cleared sterling cheque if you are having the bike delivered. If you are unsure about payment then contact me as I am sure we can sort something out.

Any questions please email me or call from the UK on 00 33 254051245
