1963 Velosolex 2200 in good running condition

I am selling this nice and original 1963 Velosolex 2200 round frame French moped. These bikes have become very popular in the UK as they are extremely practical. ecomical an really good fun. They will fly along at 25 mph and do around 200 mpg! As used in the 1960s by the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Steve Mqueen as well as more recently Mr Bean.

The Velosolex was launched in 1946 as a cheap form of transport to get the French population mobile again after the war at the lowest cost. They were increadibly popular with over 12 million being built in total before the inventor died in 1980  and his sons sold the company to Yamaha who promptly closed it down. There were several versions over the years and this bike is a 2200 which has a round frame so has nice vintage looks. After 1966 the frame was changed to a box shape and some of the charm was lost.

This bike has had a mechanical overhaul and starts and rides vwery well. It starts within a metre as a good Solex should. The brakes and lights work and it is ready to use. The tyres have plenty of tread but are not new and will need changing in the not too distant future. Cosmetically the  bike is in totally original condition with plenty of marks and scratches etc. This gives it a nice patina and the original gold coachlines are still visible. Two things to mention are that the correct metal petrol tank has a couple of dings and the headlamp plastic cover has faded to a dark grey colour which is quite common. Hopefully you can see these faults in the pictures. Personally i think they just add to the charm and originality.  

Please note that the bike is at present in the town of Chabris in the Indre department (36) of central France. I can arrange delivery to the Worthing area on the Sussex coast during the first week in january for a price of ?50. Other delivery destinations in the UK are available but please email me for a price. Please note i do not ship to Portugal. Greece or the United States.
