2009 Ural Dalesman combination.
I bought this new in December 2009 from F2 motorcycles. nbsp;a UK Ural dealer. to be my winter transport.
It was so much fun that it remained my main transport (all year round) for three years but has been less frequently used for the past two years as my aging body required something with doors and a heater for the winter months. It has clocked up nearly 47500 kilometres (approx. 29500 miles).
I have done many long journeys on it. including two touring holidays in France and it only once let me down when the electronic ignition trigger failed about four miles from home - soon fixed with a new item. It is very comfortable on long runs and. despite not being particularly fast. eats up the miles with ease.
This really is a fun and practical motorcycle and the only reason for it's sale is to make way for a Land Rover.
It had two new tyres and two sets of wheel bearings fitted at the beginning of 2014 and has only done a few miles since. It's just had it's MOT test. which it sailed through without any advisories. It has been regularly serviced as per the manual with full oil and filter changes at specified intervals.
Being the 2009 model. it has front disc brakes and has the later (reliable) alternator. It has 4 forward and 1 reverse gears. It does not have drive to the sidecar wheel.
It is fitted with the following extra's -
Heated handlebar grips.
Hand guards.
Auxiliary power sockets in sidecar (for phone charging. sat nav etc. )
10 litre auxiliary petrol can.
Two metal tool boxes on the sidecar and leather pannier on the motorcycle.
Rear rack over spare wheel.
Tow bar.
Swivelling spot lamp .
Folding military shovel.
Tank mounted reverse gear selector.
Now the bad bit.
Russian motorcycles are not renowned for their reliability or paint finish. This machine has been reliable. but the paint has lived up to it's reputation and. helped along quite nicely by our winter road salt has been slowly parting company from the metalwork for several years. I have touched up or re-sprayed several areas in the past but. as you can see from the pictures. it is decidedly tatty and there are many areas where the rust has lifted the paint. Having said that. it is all light rusting and is easily rubbed down and touched up but to be honest. I just gave up the battle.
These machines require regular maintenance and servicing to keep them in good mechanical order so you need to be a 'hands on' type motorcyclist. Fortunately. they are old fashioned technology (apart from the Bosch electronic ignition) and very easy to work on.
They are quite heavy machines and not particularly fast though it will cruise happily at 50 to 55 all day.
If you are looking for a good winter motorcycle then this is for you.
To sum up. this is a fun and practical machine that the new owner could drive home and get good service from. but needs some tlc in the looks department when winter ends. Mechanically it is in generally good condition and everything works as it should but remember that it has done nearly 30. 00 miles and gone through several winters.
I will include in the sale a pair of handle bar muffs (great when it gets below freezing) and a bag of 'touring spares' (bought for my long journeys and never used) which includes things like spare cables. spark plugs. drive coupling. inner tubes. wheel bearings etc.
I also have an excellent camping trailer (shown in the pictures but not included in the auction) which has accompanied me on quite a few trips. and this is available to the winning bidder as a separate purchase if required.
I have tried to be as honest as possible but please be sure that this is the machine for you before bidding and I am happy to answer any questions. If you want to chat about it or arrange to come and see it before the auction ends. send me a message and I will give you my mobile number. I will be happy to take anyone for a test run.
It is sold as seen and I can offer no guarantee on it.
I am starting the auction at the lowest price I will take (current models are over ?11. 00 new) and there is no buy it now price so please don't ask. Payment by cash or bank transfer and collection in person only.
Collection must be made as soon as possible after the auction ends.
Thanks for looking.
