Description

Up for auction is a 1972 OSSA MAR "Mick Andrews Replica" 250cc trials bike. This is a Mk1 example of the iconic and still very capable MAR. The MAR is certainly one of the most beautiful trials machines ever made. In the early 70s. Spanish motorcycle maker OSSA hired British trials ace Mick Andrews to help them design the ultimate trials machine. The "Mick Andrews Replica" was the result. These featherweight (210 lbs) competition machines have high ground clearance. a torquey 244cc piston port 2-stroke single cylinder engine. and a heavy duty bash plate for crashing against rocks.  Andrews won the 1971 and 1972 European Trials Championship. plus the Scottish Six Days Trial three consecutive years between 1970 and 1972 for the Ossa factory. This particular MAR was correctly restored about 3 years ago. then entered and competed in an AHRMA Vintage Trials event. then cleaned up and sold into a private collection (mine. the seller's). It remains very tidy. but is not a show queen; it has some light wear from usage. Engine and chassis numbers match. Correct 26mm IRZ carb.  Akront alloy rims.  Veglia trials speedo. etc. This bike was built in December 1972 according to the frame decal on the headstock. which is also stamped with the chassis number and is rare to find still in place. The sale includes a photocopied parts book. wiring diagram. and service manual. new headlight mounting straps. an extra tank emblem. plus a bag or original/used cables and front fender stays removed during restoration (all pictured below).  If you haven't ridden a vintage trials bike. you should. These mountain goats of the motorcycle world are great exercise. great fun. and also a fairly safe way to enjoy motorcycling thanks to the relatively low speed nature of trials riding. Vintage trials bikes like this one still have a useable seat. so you don't have to be "on the pegs" 100% of the time. So. buy it to ride or buy it to put in your living room. this example would be good for either.  Condition:The bike is fully sorted with only light wear. One of the "Mick Andrews Replica" side cover decals is worn a bit. Some superficial stress cracking on the outside of the fuel tank finish (common - tried to photo but hard to see). but no leaks or discoloration. Could use a professional detailing. but still very clean. The bike has been trialed. so there's bound to be nicks and scratches I haven't described (I focused on the main things). so please see photos or ask for additional photos if you have specific concerns. Speedo says 228 miles. I have no way to say whether this is actual or not. but since this is a trials bike. it likely is the correct mileage.  The Michelin Trials Competition tires remain in virtually new condition since the restoration (nipples everywhere. still very soft. no dry cracking).  Terms:The bike is sold on a Bill of Sale. There is no title. This is a competition machine meant for off-road use only; it is not street legal or street registered. It is also a 42 year old 2-stroke. so no warranty is expressed or implied. despite the high quality restoration and current fully functioning condition. Your bid is a commitment to buy. not an option to buy. so please ask any and all questions before bidding. The bike is available for inspection. by appointment. in the Brewster. NY 10509 area. I will not crate or ship the bike. but I will make myself available to meet with the shipper of your choice. I can possibly deliver (for gas money) the bike within a reasonable distance of Brewster. NY. but confirm any such logistics with me before bidding if this is a deal breaker for you. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time and for any reason. Check my feedback and bid with confidence. Good luck!
