Description

1976 Maico MC250/5(AW) Adolph Wiel MotoCross

---NO RESERVE AUCTION---$1. 00 STARTING BID---BIKE WILL SELL--

The mid 70's were some wild times. weren't they? The suspension revolution was in full attack mode and every manufacturer was scrambling with this 'new' technology. and trying desperately to stay ahead of their competitors to out do one another. Maico would come out with no less than 5 FIVE models in 2 TWO years!! from 1974 to 1976 a NEW bike was introduced virtually every six months!! and if you weren't racing on the latest & greatest bike available that particular month. you were out classed and obsolete! I remember it well: it was like the wild west back then --- a really crazy time for motocross. that's for sure.

This very rare '76 model was the first iteration of the Adolph Weil Replica series model line. For 1977 Maico would offer almost the same bike as the one here. nbsp;but everything (frame. plastics) would be painted bright red. These AW's are AWESOME bikes. and really did just about everything well on a motocross track.

Maico was a small manufacturer out of W. Germany. and were VERY PROUD of their factory rider. So proud in fact that they named their entire series of motocross bikes (125cc. 250cc. 400cc. and 440cc) after him. hence now commonly referred to AW's.

Adolf Weil (December 25. 1938 – May 12. 2011) was a German professional motocross racer. He competed in the FIM 250cc and 500cc Motocross Grand Prix world championships as a rider for the Maico factory racing team during the 1960s and 1970s.

Weil finished second to H?kan Andersson in the 1973 250cc World Championship. and finished in third place three times in the 500cc World Championship.  While he was never able to capture an international title. he won 14 German motocross national championships.  Weil won the 1973 Trans-AMA championship at the age of 34. [3]He was known as the 'Iron Man' of motocross because he competed for over 20 years in a physically demanding sport that is dominated by younger riders. After retiring from competition in 1977. he ran a motorcycle business with his two sons Frank and J?rgen in his hometown of Solingen. Germany.

All numbers match each other---frame--data plates---motor.

This bike is relatively stock with the exception of new reproduction plastics. wide racing pegs. seat cover. bars. nbsp;and shocks. This is a NICE BIKE!!! Original aluminum coffin tank is excellent--I could find only 1 or 2 tiny dings. Original pipe is excellent---one or two tiny dings in underside. Seat cover & foam; excellent. 38mm Maico forks rebuilt. W. P. shocks rebuilt. All Magura controls. vintage bar pad. excellent bars (possibly original?). Mikuni carb conversion. This year Maico gave the buyer the option of being able to run an up-pipe (not included) if so desired. The up pipe was called the 'rough country' option. Needs new kill button installed (included). Like I said--nice bike.

Excellent compression and spark. Bike has been sitting and should run after YOUR RACE PREP prior to riding or racing it.
