Description

Place your bid now. or Buy It Now. and very soon — immediately if you Buy It Now — you can become the proud owner of a beautiful 2007 Genuine Buddy 125cc motor scooter. The title is clear. The location is Indianapolis. IN. I am willing to deliver the scooter in my truck. to meet you within a 100-mile radius of Indianapolis. Please check this requirement before you bid.

This scooter has had one owner — me. I have been a careful. by-the-book rider. I have babied this scooter. loved it. treated it with care and respect.

The Buddy has the 125cc engine. so you should be aware that the scooter must be registered and plated. In order to register the scooter. you will need to get the motorcycle endorsement on your driver’s license. All of these things have to be scheduled. When you get your title. you can ask about the motorcycle endorsement process of the written test and the skills test at the BMV.

The colors. cream over black. are so classy. and with the distinctive body style. the Buddy has an "Italian Job" Mini-Cooper and "Roman Holiday" vibe. I can’t find any rust on the scooter at all. This is partly due to not riding during the cold and icy/road salty winters. nor in rain very often.

The Genuine Scooter Company is based in Chicago. IL. The body style is a salute to the original famous Vespa. but uses less metal and drops the gear changing transmission of the Vespa in favor of the twist and go (TNG) throttle method of acceleration/deceleration.

The Genuine Buddy and related models are the classiest scooters made today. with a huge following on the Genuine Buddy forum. Modern Buddy. where you can get all kinds of ideas of mods. exclusive Buddy accessories made by forum members. and connect with national and local area events. rides. and meet-ups. In Indianapolis. Speed City Cycles sells and services the Genuine scooter line. and staff started a Buddy club. with regular weekly evening rides and special events around the Indy Metro area.

This auction begins at a price that reflects the loving care given to this scooter over the past seven years. I have not ridden it as much as I thought I would. I recently cleaned the fuel system. including taking apart the carburetor and all the lines. soaking in Seafoam. replacing the fuel filter. and winterizing the fuel with Sta-Bil. Several times this winter. I have driven the scooter to run the gas with Sta-Bil and fuel system cleaner through all the lines. carb. filter. and new spark plug.

I’ve changed the oil regularly. as advised by the Genuine Scooter Company. every quarter. regardless of the mileage. I can provide a link to some excellent instructions on oil changes. There are two types of oil used. engine oil and transmission oil. The oil filter is easy to obtain locally. or can be ordered online in discounted quantities.

The Genuine Buddy 125 is a twist-and-go scooter. no clutch. no changing gears. just twist the throttle more or less to increase or decrease speed. Brake controls for back and front wheels are typical. Other safety features are a shut-off or kill switch. a horn. right and left rear-view mirrors. and turn signals. The scooter starter is electric. with a two-part process that little hands cannot operate. so the scooter is far less likely to be accidentally started.

Just in case little kids decide to climb on the Buddy. a regular side frame kickstand is supplemented by a more stable stand that requires adult strength to engage. and lifts the back wheel off the ground. When used on a level surface. the scooter will be quite stable. If it should fall on its side. maybe due to parking on a slope. the weight is not terribly heavy. Two men lifted it into the bed of my truck. This is also important to know: you may want to take security precautions against theft.

Securing the scooter in parking is always a concern. since a scooter can be easily lifted. or hot-wired. or otherwise disappeared from wherever it is parked. I am including a very daunting cable-type lock. recommended by the shop. I have always wrapped the lock cable around the bright red suspension coil under the seat to the left side. loop around a secure rack or pole. secure the lock with the key.

There are only 3. 00 miles on the scooter. I have not ridden it much over the past five years. but I kept it in case I could ride to work on some pleasant days. I no longer have the space to store the scooter where I live. or I would keep it until the wheels fall off (a long. long time).

I have calculated a few different times that I get between 75 and 90 miles per gallon of gas. (The tank holds about 1-? gallons. ) The lesser figure reflects riding in the flow of traffic. between 45 and 60 mph. in stop and go city driving. The higher 90 mpg reflects long uninterrupted back road pleasure rides. also up to 60 mph. but with fewer spans of time sitting at traffic lights.

The ignition key also operates the lock for the under-seat storage space and the fuel tank fill. On the fairing facing the rider. there is a spacious storage cubby with room for a water bottle. and a 12v round receiver for a phone charger or other devices that use a car-type charger.

Please notice. also. that I have other items for sale related to the Buddy. I have a Scooter Skirt. good for keeping the wind off from the waist down. taking advantage of the open space of the Buddy’s leg room. I also have helmets for sale. I have an after-market luggage rack for adding a large basket or box for books. groceries. etc.

Two helmets are also listed. My helmet size is adult XS. extra small. I have one vintage style white HJC open face helmet with a clear face shield and black visor built in. This helmet reminds me of the old TV show. CHIPS. the California Highway Patrol dudes on motorcycles. The open-face helmet will give a full view of your lovely face. and the face shield will keep the bugs out of your teeth when you go smiling down the road on your very cool Buddy.

The other helmet is a more conservative HJC closed face helmet. black. with a clear face shield that can lift up when not moving. Both the white and the black helmets are DOT approved. with the Snell approval seal. also. Neither helmet has been dropped or involved in an accident.

The scooter is in storage now. and has always been sheltered inside a garage. You’ll have to arrange a time with me to meet at a parking lot or at the storage facility to see the scooter. You may also send someone to examine the scooter on your behalf. so you can have a trustworthy opinion. I am auctioning this scooter as-is. That means there will be no test ride. There are no warranties expressed or implied. As-is means as-is. I am confident the scooter is in excellent. near-perfect condition. and will serve you well for years to come. but I do not have a crystal ball. The battery compartment is shown empty in the photos. because the battery is in another location with a battery maintainer keeping it in good condition when not in use. (The storage facility does not have an electrical outlet!) The battery will be installed when you have completed your purchase.
