Description

I am selling this nice Griffon 557 TC 125cc French motorcycle. Griffon was a Bicycle manufacturer formed in 1902. They built their first motorcycle in 1904 and the following year displayed no less than ten different models at the Paris show. They were bought by Peugeot in the late 1920s and the name continued until 1956. This bike is one of the last ever Griffons built being first registered in July 1956. By the time this bike was built Griffon was basically a rebadged Peugeot and as such parts are easy to source.

The bike has its French log book so registering in the UK will be a simple affair. Being 1956 it does not require an MOT. It is almost totally complete. The only parts I can see that is missing are the rear light lens and the rubber knee grips. These parts are available from Chambrier fr??res in France.

The engine turns over fine with excellent compression. The clutch and gearbox operates ok. The elderly gentleman that I purchased the bike from had owned the bike since 1993. He last used it in 2010 for local bike club ride outs. He has turned the bike over regularly and it has been carefully dry stored.

If you wanted to just get the bike going and use it I thinks a day or two fettling would sort it out. Alternatively you could  undertake a full renovation. These bikes have an excellent reputation for reliability and are easy to ride with their foot gear change and rear suspension. An interesting alternative to the BSA bantam.  It has the optional leg guards in excellent condition. The paintwork throughout is original and really quite presentable. The tyres are inflated and have good tread but due to the age and storage I would recommend new ones before use on the road. /p>

Please note that this bike is at present in the town of Chabris in the Indre department (36) of central France. For a price of ??50 I can arrange delivery to the Worthing area one week after the end of the auction. Other delivery destinations are available but please email me for a price. The bike can be collected for the same price from the Kempton Park auto jumble on December 5th. Alternatively you are welcome to come here to collect the bike and I will offer the winning bidder one nights free accommodation in our B&B.

Payment is by cleared sterling cheque if you are having the bike delivered or cash on collection if you are coming to collect it. If you have concerns about  payment contact me and we can sort something out. I am happy to store the bike until you are able to collect it.

Any questions please email me or call from the UK on 00 33 254051245
