Description

Piaggio Hexagon GTX 250. 2002. MoT'd 13th November 2015. good runner. low mileage for year. disc brakes front and rear. fitted manufacturer's specified 50l top box on proper plate. high level brake light in boot lid. back rest. This bike uses the 250cc Honda engine originally developed for the CH250 and then used in the Honda CN 250 Helix. so the first of the modern generation of automatic 'super-scoots'. On this model the original drum brake has been superseded by a rear disc. It has 11 inch wheels with the traditional Piaggio single sided front fork as on the Vespas. Its top speed is about 73 mph and it has the continuous and effective acceleration associated with this type of engine. Quite a lot of spares for both frame and engine are stocked by Fowlers of Bristol and engine spares are easily obtained via CMSNL in Holland or from the USA where the CN250 with this engine was on sale until 2007. This first engine developed for these bikes is upright so removing the seat gives good access to the top end of the engine. As with other Hexagon models the luggage space is in the boot and this will take two open faced crash helmets (with care!). The bike comes with a back rest and rack and this one has the original type of large topcase fitted so the carrying capacity is good. even for a scooter. This bike has the optional high-level brake light fitted in the boot. This particular example has the original handbook with it and quite a lot of history. The mileage is genuine. There are a few scratches on the bodywork which I haven't attempted to touch in. Touch up paint is available from RS paints. Unfortunately I got the colour number wrong when ordering the matching top box and this is just slightly the wrong red. It still looks better that a black topcase. I think but it depends how much of a fashion icon you are. I suppose. The only item that doesn't work is the dashboard clock. This can be replaced. I believe as a separate item but is not available new. The front tyre is coming up for replacement. The original tools are in the compartment with the fuel filler neck in between the footboards. I bought this bike last April to use locally and on the back of our campervan. I have ridden it about 2200 miles and it has been to Eire under its own power and has been used in France and Spain with the van. A fair amount of the mileage has been two up. I'm a fan of this Honda engine and have had a CH125 scooter and have a CH250 in the garage awaiting restoration. I've gradually been improving the bike as I've used it: It had a new rear tyre 1000 miles ago and the rear wheel blasted and powder coated. It came with a aftermarket exhaust which was horrible and was spoiling the performance so I obtained and fitted a secondhand CN250 exhaust of the type used on this machine. It has had a new air filter of the correct type and a proper Honda drive belt. again sourced from the USA. The headlight reflectors tend to lose their silvering on this model and I bought a secondhand one in good condition and fitted that. (The old reflector is still fitted in the pictures outside the house). The main stand has had new bushes fitted and has been powder coated. I have de-rusted and repainted and then undersealed the exposed parts of the frame and forks. I have had the boot off and de-rusted. repainted and rustproofed the supporting rails and oiled the boot hinges. There was no sign of serious rust damage. I have replaced fixing screws and captive nuts where they were missing or rusted in.  As you can probably tell. I was into this bike for the long haul. As so often happens personal circumstances have changed and I need a different sort of machine. This will make a good comfortable ride to work bike with a simple specification for someone who likes doing their own maintenance or it could be a collector's machine. This and the 180cc two stroke Hexagons were probably the most interesting of the model type. Viewing welcome - scooter in Barnsley. South Yorkshire. Please send message to arrange.
