Description

Hello. and a very warm welcome to this auction for my incredible Puch Maxi Cafe Racer. So. what do we have here? If you've clicked on this auction. you've been drawn in by the formidable looks of this Austrian classic - now feast your mince pies on the specification! I'll start by saying that it's all above board and I have the V5 in my name and the number on the frame matches the V5 (the engine did. but I replaced it - more on that later). Grab yourself a cup of tea and prepare to get an itchy bidding finger. I dragged this beast out of a strange bloke's garden in Stockport. approximately 4 years ago. It was in a sorry state! I didn't know anything about these rare machines back then. or even 2-strokes to be honest - oh. how this little bike was to change that over the next 4 years. Here is a link to one man's epic journey. If you plan on reading the whole thread. please be prepared with some tissues to mop away the tears. and try to be with someone you're relatively close to so that you have a shoulder to cry on. But don't be fooled! It's not just a weepy - it's a roller coaster of emotion. I'd say it's a cross between The Green Mile and Anchorman. With a bit of Titanic and Sharknado thrown in for good effect. Link is here: http://retrorides. proboards. com/thread/91726/1983-puch-maxi-blue-weenie#. VEKuzGddUl8So down to the nitty gritty basic facts. you've either clicked the link and we won't see you for a few days (make sure you're back before the auction ends) or you've skipped it. sparing yourself the emotional drain. and just want to lknow what this special little bike can offer you under your care.  So. the quick version. It's been fully restored. As in. everything is new (apart from the rear shocks). It's impressive spec includes:Italian made EBR racing front forksAustrian heavy duty swingarm in chromeNew brake shoes all roundBi-turbo exhaust (sadly. this doesn't mean twin turbo. I think something got lost in translation)15mm Bing carburetor 70cc DMP cylinder head and cylinder (still registered as a 50cc. easy to change if you wish)DMP piston and piston ringTop Racing competition con-rodExternal condensor modificationIn-line rear light resistor modification (stops bulbs blowing at the now achievable F1 spec rpms)Custom made numberplate holderCustom dropped seat Original 1970s drop bars or 'ace bars' 42 tooth rear spocket for increased top speedAll new engine bearingsAll new engine sealsEverything internal replacedCorrect heat plugHigher tension 'Frankensteind' leadNew coilNew pointsNew wiring inside the stator plateNew woodruff keyAll new gasketsFresh fluidsNew kick stand2. 75 wide tyres New petcockFreeflow custom airfilterI got it fully rebuilt and MoTd  about 2 years ago and had an absolute blast gunning around the Wirral. Here's a nice claim to fame - whilst parked up admiring the view over the Dee and taking some pics of the little champ. Ian Rush drove past and winked. pointed at the Puch and gave me the thumbs up! So there you go. if nothing else - it's officially endorsed by Ian Rush.  I rode it about here and there but had issues once it got hot. It happened a lot. After a while I felt like setting fire to it. I considered throwing it over the cliffs at Thurstaston but settled for launching it into a hedge in Caldy instead. As I said. it's been an emotional roller coaster. I traced it eventually to a condensor that would overheat being cooped up with the stator plate. particularly as the overhauled and beefed up power unit can rev it's little mammaries off. it generates more heat than the condensor can cope with. I've since rectified this by wiring in an external condensor. Problem solved! Had it tucked in my workshop for a good while and the MoT has expired in that time. I've ignored it for a little while but over the summer and in fact as recently as about 3 weeks ago. I had it running sweet as a nut. But then it stopped. I believe it to be carb related - but the timing could be to blame too. as whilst trying to drop the idle speed I played with the timing slightly.  I've decided that it's time to pass this utter bad man on to someone else. Even though I'd get a lot more money breaking it and selling it in bits - I just can't do that. Its story needs to continue! It's the perfect quick winter project that's had a flipping fortune already spent and requires not a lot of work at all. It's extremely fast for what it is (bends the speedo needle right round!) and it handles well now it has the uprated EBR forks.  What does it need for MoT?New cables (cheap for a full set on ebay or Moparts)Throttle grip fitting (fairly certain this in the parts box!)Get her running (it has fuel and a very healthy fat spark - timing would be a good guess. perhaps a fiddle with the carb too)Switch unit wiring up (in the parts box!)She comes with specialist Puch tools - I'm not gonna need them anymore. as well as lots of spares and a workshop manual. It even has uprated parts I haven't fitted yet - this is a cool relatively quick project. I will be genuinely sad to see this go. I've invested blood. sweat. nbsp;tears. cash. hopes and dreams on this fine machine. It just needs someone with some fresh enthusiasm and a passion for all things awesome to finish it off as I'm. quite literally. spent. Good day. Oh. and good luck!
