Description

This auction is for a 1982 'X'-reg Suzuki GN400 motorcycle. being sold as in need of attention. I've owned this bike since 2011. When I bought it. it had been laid up in a shed for quite some time and needed some work to return it to the road. which included rebuilding the front brake caliper. new front brake pads. new battery. etc. After being returned to the road. it was used for a while (although not particularly extensively). but it's now been sat in the garage unused for about 18 months due to illness. I have had it running recently but the engine seems very hard to start. I have charged the battery and it does seem to stay charged. All indicators. the rear light. brake light. instrument backlights and lights on the instrument cluster appear to work. as do the gear indicator lights. However the electrical system needs looking at as the headlight is very dim indeed (this problem pre-dates the period of non-use). The chain was replaced not long before the bike was laid up. so still has plenty of life left in it. Both tyres are in need of replacement - although having plenty of tread they are very old and did not feel very nice to ride on. The front has some form of slow air leak. as it went flat whilst the bike was unused. That said. it has stayed up since I inflated it a few weeks ago. Both brakes are free and work as they should. as far as I can tell. Cosmetically. as you can see in the photos. the bike is generally tatty. The fuel tank has a bit of surface rust in a few places. although it's perfectly sound. The exhaust has surface rust and plenty of pitting to the finish. but does not leak. The seat has a split in it and the chrome trim is coming away a bit at the side. but is otherwise OK. Both side panels are intact. but are a little scruffy. As I hope the description makes clear. this bike is in need of work but I'm sure with some time and money spent it'd be a lovely machine again. These are nice lightweight bikes with a low seat (good for those with short legs). but with a pleasing amount of punch from the 400cc engine. Having 27bhp. it would be suitable to ride on the new A2 restricted licence. There is no MOT or road tax. I have the V5 in my name. along with some receipts and a small amount of history. The bike will need collecting with a van or trailer - you cannot ride it away. and I regret that I am unable to help with delivery. Sold as seen. as a project bike. The bike is located about 10 miles from Cambridge. Payment by cash only. please. If you have any questions. please ask!
