Description

One of the finest examples of the 1989 Suzuki GSX-R750RR (RK) left in the World today.

Absolutely standard trim. with a mere 2. 90 miles since new and still with its original tyres!

I am reluctantly selling my very rare. exceptionally low mileage Suzuki GSX-R750RR also known by its model prefix as the RK. One of only 500 units made in 1989 to homologate for World Superbike racing. there are reputedly less than 100 of these left in the world. Of those left. ones in this condition are in numbers of less than 10. ?ˆ?The Real Deal?ˆ™ as she is aptly known is number 260/500 and was built at the Hamamatsu plant in Japan.

Imported and owned by my late father from its first owner in Japan and now owned by me. this family owned example was still shod on its original factory issue Michelin tyres from 1989. which bear testament to the mileage of just 2190 miles (actually in km?ˆ™s). The original tyres are still with the bike but in order to pass an MOT which I thought essential for any would-be buyer. the bike has a brand new pair of tyres on it. She has also been fully serviced by the HRC technician who builds the official HRC engines for the UK and Suzuka 8 Hour racing effort. Again. I felt essential to ensure that whoever buys this beautiful machine. can be happy in the knowledge that she is mechanically superb. The service / recommison included all ancillaries. battery and lubricants along with a full carburettor service including cleaning. new gaskets and seals and then balanced to ensure absolute perfection.

The bike is immaculate in every respect from the underside of the belly pan to front fairing to the tailpiece and is totally unmolested. It does bears age related patina such as small amounts of mottling on some of the aluminium components and the original Suzuki factory paint on the wheels has imperfections but this again demonstrates the absolute originality of this beautiful Suzuki. For the last 3 years she has resided in my walnut-floored garage. covered and only bought out for the odd show or to warm her through gently.

She has a personal registration plate ending in ?ˆ?RRK?ˆ™. I have the parts catalogue in Japanese and English. an accessories catalogue in Japanese. magazine articles relating to the ?ˆ?RR?ˆ™. GSXR books. the V5c. MOT certificates. two keys including the registration key (unheard of!) and a display board detailing all about this very special machine. She is SORN at present.

If rarity is your thing. then look past the RC30 or OW01. this GSX-R is the one to have. Of the few original units left in the world. this is undoubtedly the finest.

The Suzuki GSX-R750RK. also known as the RR. is a very rare motorcycle ?ˆ“ only 500 were made in its year of release; 1989. This motorcycle is relatively unknown to most bikers. even to current and former GSX-R owners. which is surprising as its standard siblings the J. K. L. M models are among the most recognised in the world.

The RR stood for Race Replica and was Suzuki?ˆ™s answer to the Honda RVF750 / RC30. It was designed by Takahiko Kawaguchi and served a number of purposes. First and foremost Suzuki had to homologate a race bike to compete at an International level. e. g. World Super Bikes. In other words. build a limited number of race bikes in a road going trim to comply with the rules and compete.

Apart from being a 'straight out of the crate racer'. the double R was a bike which could be tuned far more easily than its short-stroke predecessor the J. and K Suzuki GSX-R750s. This was mainly to cater for the smaller racing teams as the RK's engine reverted back to the long-stroke style engine. fitted in the original slabside models. Racing teams which were already adept at tuning the long stroke engine were instantly at home when tweaking this motor and found it easier to get the most out of this new/ old long stroke design.

From the 500 originally fabricated. only 200 units were exported to Europe; most of these ended up in Germany. the UK. France and Holland. some went to Sweden. a couple went to Norway and only one to Iceland. Out of this 200 total. 50 units officially came to the UK. Most went to racers and race teams. thus units which went to dealerships and sold to private customers were very limited. Its price in 1989 was almost £9000. enough to buy a small house. so most consumers opted for the slightly cheaper and more plentiful Honda RC30. It also helped that the RC30 was winning on the track at the time.

None were officially exported to the USA. possibly due to the high import tax tariff which was in situ at the time on bikes with a larger cubic capacity than 700cc. even though there was a large demand for racing bikes at the time due to the AMA. This tariff was introduced after being requested by the stalling Harley-Davidson company to avoid a collapse in sales. this was partially due to H-D's then. poor reliability issues. Another reason why the US didn't get its share is because they were always a year behind getting the latest models; understandably by the following year they had all been allocated. Some did eventually find their way over to the States and examples can also be found in Australia and other countries.

The bulk of the original 500 units were raced and subsequently trashed. It is believed that there are fewer than 100 examples left in existence in the world. which would make it rare but not quite extinct. Of the bikes left. very few remain in original condition.

This immaculate. unrestored RR has never seen a racetrack. She was imported into the UK from a private collection in Japan and is No. 260/500 off the production line. She has just 2190 miles on the odometer and is still shod on the original factory issue Michelin tyres.

Of the few original units left in the world. this is undoubtedly one the finest.
