You've got to hand it to Suzuki Motors. Anxious to counter rival Yamaha Motor Corp's line of fabulously popular DT & RT dirt bikes. they sort of rushed to market their TM line of motocrossers. Basically hopped up and stripped down TS enduro's. the TM's were actually pretty good racers. but the first year startup was a disaster in 1971 with their truly dangerous orange TM400 Cyclone. That bike had too much horsepower and not enough suspension and frame development. and actually wound up getting a bunch of people hurt. Suzuki learned from their mistakes and the TM's went through major changes every year until finally morphing into what you see here---the 1975 TM250. This RARE BIKE was only built and available for less than 6 months (early 1975) before the '76 RM's came out during mid year of 1975. Everyone knows how good those '76 RM's were as Suzuki pulled out all the stops to create a true 'works replica' of their factory RH. RN. & RA works bikes. If you weren't racing a 'yellow' bike in 1976. the odds were that you weren't going to win---they really were that good. The word was out in all the magazines about the fabulous Suzuki RM line about to be released. so all the serious racers of the day passed on these '75 TM's and waited on pins and needles for those RM-A models to hit their Suzuki showroom floors. I know this because I was in fact one of those very guys.
By 1974 the TM line of racers were actually pretty good bikes. but surprisingly Suzuki didn't stop there. You might have thought that Suzuki would have basically offered a re-badged '74 bike for 1975 since they knew their RM's were almost ready for release and were surely going to smoke everything else out there (and that they did). Remember when Yamaha took their time developing their excellent '77 YZ-D models. and all they did for 1976 was re-release their '75 MX line. paint them yellow. and call them YZ's? What a disappointment those overweight and underpowered '76 YZ 250 & 400 C bikes turned out to be.
But Suzuki didn't do that. and actually made a bunch of improvements over their '74 TM's and so offered a drastically improved version for 1975. These last year M model TM's were actually very good race bikes. with: modified engines for more usable (tractable) horsepower and toned down power delivery. relocated engines lowered in frames. good ergonomics and handling. all new pipes & silencers. longer travel with improved damping forks. and the rear suspension relocated & moved forward 2" to just name a few. These improvements. along with their very low production numbers make any of the last year '75 TM motocrossers highly sought after today.
When I received this bike it was in good condition but definitely had been 'sun roached'. meaning metal was good but all plastics and rubber were toast. This bike has all new TM plastics (including side panels). new seat cover & new foam. new grips. restored smaller TM125 fuel tank with new paint & RM graphics. and new bars. Original Suzuki controls are nice. Original shocks still dampen and look good. The tires are used but almost new. Engine has been completely rebuilt at 1st over and is ready for you to break in accordingly. Excellent original pipe & silencer. impossible to find complete air box with new filter element. excellent original frame. wheels. etc all original and unmodified or altered. Forks rebuilt with new seals and oil. Original 525 chain & sprockets (chain is new--see above). Original sprocket cover and chain guides still in place and undamaged. Very rare original & complete oil injection system still in place and still functioning---you get another OEM bottle as the one on the bike is sun damaged at the cap (see photos). This is a great race bike with a really cool look to it--I think it looks a lot like the 1975 RM125M which had that RH & RA 'works' styling. Nice bike ready to go once you've properly broken in that fresh motor.
Bike has been sitting for a while since resto and is ready for YOUR RACE PREP prior to riding or racing it.
