I bought this bike in SC in early October. and brought it back home to VA. The previous owner had some medical issues and could no longer ride. At the time. I was unaware that it had a salvage title as the seller had indicated that it was clear in the ebay auction. When I went to the DMV in Virginia. they told me that they would not title it unless I can produce the receipts and proof of its rebuild. They sent me a document showing that the bike had obtained its salvage title in SC in 2002. I am assuming that the bike was rebuilt/repaired at that time. and it has been registered in SC since; due to the fact that SC will register a salvage vehicle. Being that all records of its repairs are gone. I am unable to obtain a title and thus drive. which kills me because its a nice bike. I did take it out on the back road near my house for about six miles and it ran well. handled well. and has lots of power. The drive train sounded good and the clutch engaged with no slippage. At 60 mph it felt very stable with no apparent vibrations or noises.
I noticed that the front tire had some cracks. so I replaced it with a new Dunlop tire and tube. The back tire looks good. The previous owner just put brakes on the front and rear prior to selling it. The top of the gas tank is faded and there is a chip in the paint on the rear fender. The bike doesn't look like its ever been laid down. so whoever fixed it did a nice job. It has after-market pipes and sounds very nice. It has a Mustang seat cover. It does seem to be cold natured when I first start it. but that could be from where it has been sitting for awhile. I have not added fresh gas to it.
I am sick over this thing because I love the bike and don't want to sell it. However if I can not obtain a title in the state of VA then its just a pretty shop ornament. I am going to continue researching. but I have little hope of the DMV being very helpful here. If you are in a state like SC where you can drive this bike with a salvaged title then it would not be a problem.
