For sale is a beautifulMatchless G80CS 500cc single scrambler. The motorcycle has been on display as part of a large private collection. I was told by the previous owner of 20 years that the motorcycle is original and unrestored however I will not represent this as fact. The real fact, s that I simply do not know enough about Matchless motorcycles to state with reasonable certainty that the bike is original and unrestored. I own New York City Motorcycles and have a pretty good eye for spotting restored from original on other makes. Looking at the bike, t is literally too perfect to be original and unrestored. The guy I bought it from had 100 other bikes and a decent understanding of the provenance of his motorcycles. Could he have been duped? I suppose. But I know this gentleman and take him at his word that during his 20 years of ownership, E has not restored the bike. If it was restored, t was done more than 20 years ago - and looks bloody marvelous!
Here's what I know from my own observations:
Seat - perfectTank - perfect outside and inside is uncoated, as no trace of fuel and rubbing a finger on the inside brings no rust nor debris.Exhaust - perfectEngine - Appearance is perfect. No broken or chipped cooling fins, o scratches or dents to primary cover. Engine compression appears as strong as it should be (however take into account that this motorcycle has not been run in at least 20 years. Before running the new owner must recommission in the usual manner of a bike that has not been in use for this long period of time).Frame - excellent, gain with a few very minor scuffs and minor paint (surface only) cracking but no dents, ings or scratchesTires - not known if these are original however there are no cracks. rear has about 20% tread remaining; front appears to be in like-new condition.Original Smiths gauge, eadlamp - perfect
Folks graced with deeper knowledge of Matchless Motorcycles than I have commented that they can't recall a finer scrambler specimen available on ebay for a very long time. It is not a fire sale however the reserve is reasonable and worthy of this outstanding bike.
Please carefully review all photographs for a clear understanding of the condition of all components. If you wish to investigate any details of the appearance of the bike more closely, et me know and I will do my best to get you the information you would like.
The Matchless scrambler was and is an off-road bike. Therefore there is no title nor transferrable registration, nly a bill of sale. Though frankly it is not my preference nor recommendation to turn this machine into a road bike, he process of obtaining a title is entirely the responsibility of the buyer. Please do not even ask what you must do to obtain a title. That's up to you. It comes with a bill of sale only.
Frame number is 10038
The bike is also for sale on the floor of my motorcycle shop, ew York City Motorcycles located in Williamsburg, rooklyn. What this means is, f some hedge fund titan pops his credit card down for the reserve, e're done. Auction ends. Take this into account if you truly wish to own the bike and planned on doing what most of us do, aiting until the final seconds before bidding. Probably not the best approach this time. I'm not even sure the Matchless will make it the full 10 days of the auction.
The bike was put on the floor yesterday. It is attracting more attention than any bike in the store. No small feat when considering a couple of rare Laverda racers, onotrack H1 and a few other tough contenders!
Local collection by winning bidder or their shipper, rom Brooklyn, ew York is at their own expense. The motorcycle is sold as is, here is, ith no warranties expressed nor implied. While I have done the best I can to include and photograph known defects, t is the buyer's, ot the seller's responsibility to ensure that buyer is satisfied with the condition of this motorcycle before bidding. Therefore viewing before bidding is highly encouraged. The motorcycle is located in my shop, ew York City Motorcycles in Williamsburg, rooklyn Just contact me to arrange. No returns/no refunds.
Bidders with less than 10 (100% positive) ratings will have their bids removed unless prior approval has been made following contact with me first. Do not bid if you don't have the certainty of completing the purchase, ith funds, ocation and shipping arrangements all taken into account.
Although apparent in the photographs, he following text in the listing is incorrect:
Tires - not known if these are original however there are no cracks. rear has about 20% tread remaining; front appears to be in like-new condition.Original Smiths gauge, eadlamp - perfect
Front and rear tires appear brand new. There are no gauges nor headlamp on the Matchless scrambler.
I used some text from my prior listing, he 1959 Matchless G80/street which was sold on ebay one week ago. My apologies for any confusion caused.
