Description

1996 Triumph Thunderbird 9003-cylinder Hinckley engine. Mikuni carbs. 5 Speed transmission with chain drive. I've long been an admirer of these spoked wheel Triumph bikes and bought this from a private seller in the middle of August 2013. In the fall of 2013 I put in new spark plugs. fuel lines. throttle cable. and a washable air filter. During the spring of 2014 I had the carbs professionally serviced with new needles. needle jets. and fuel jets. During the summer of 2014 I had new fork seals professionally installed. The mechanic at that time found the rubber fork supports at the top of the fork tree to be unusable and simply replaced them with the old fork seals. The bike is equipped with Triumph Off Road exhaust silencers which makes it a bit louder than stock and the carbs have been adjusted to support this change. It is also currently fitted with lowering "dogbones" that bring the rear wheel closer to the rear fender. but I have the stock links as well. which are included. The handlebars are a mid-level drag bar with a lower profile than the stock bars. but the stock bars are included (though I have never had them fitted to the bike). The rear turn signals have been replaced by the previous owner with a combination "Cat's Eye" turn signal/trail light. which are unfortunately screwed into the very bottom of the rear fender. I have the stock plastic tail light bubble. turn signal stalks and lenses. but some additional screws and parts may be required to fit them in place. The previous owner had bar end turn signals which I removed and replaced with stock grips. but both ends could benefit from bar end plugs. I am at least the third owner of this nearly 20 year old bike and it shows signs of age in the paint and chrome in the way of fading. swirl marks. light scratches. and pits in the chrome. I've tried to show the most notable defects which consist of two small dents in the fuel tank on the right side where it seems the handle bars came into contact during a drop. dents and scratches in the right muffler. and the right turn signal post support has been cracked and repaired with JB Weld or some such epoxy. My long term plan was to pretty this bike up with a fresh coat of paint and a number of accessories to make it my own. but a change in life has made this a lower priority. With the choke less than half on this bike starts right up and requires minimal warm up time before pulling out of the driveway. It can be driven away as is. If I were keeping this the two next things I might change are the tires and the chain. The chain functions fine. but is a little ugly. I'm not a great expert on tire tread wear. but I probably would ride it this season as is. Also included in a sissy bar/passenger back rest. I have never had it fitted to the bike. but it seems solid. I do have a printout of the service manual that I will also include. Clear Illinois title. Buyer must make payment in full within seven days of the end of auction. Please let me know if you have additional questions or you would like to make an appointment to see the bike in person. Thank you for looking and good luck bidding!
