Description

1971 Triumph Tiger 650 4 Speed. set up as Cafe Racer. It was bought from the original owner. who was selling to downsize collection which included BSA?ˆ™s (one of which was a 500 lightning caf?© racer which was campaigned by him internationally since 1968). some Nortons and a couple of Matchless and a Vincent. He was a retired Triumph mechanic and British bike enthusiast from England that experienced the Ace caf?© first hand. This was his dream build. All original documents and books from day one are included as well.

Solid "old school" cafe racer built before the current craze. It was completed as it is today in 1974. Minor tweeks and maintenance through the years to enhance drive-abilty. But is retains its originality from the seventies.

In 2003. during the long winter and mainly out of boredom. the drivetrain was removed and rebuilt. All parts were on spec when removed and are included with the sale for inspection. The bike has around 1000 miles on it since a total motor and transmission rebuild which included:

. . 020" overbore/pistons

. all new bearings/seals

. valves/guides/springs

. several transmission gears

. Morgo racing oil pump

. primary chain

. clutch center/steel plates

. Boyer ignition

. Podtronics regulator

. coils/plug wires

. Sludge Trap cleanout

. camplate leaf spring was converted to old style "plunger type"

Bike also features:

. Unity Equipe fiberglass tank

. Thruxton Style fiberglass seat

. NJB racing shocks

. Tommaselli Levers

. SRM Bearing Pressure Plate

. Sammy Miller folding kick

. Clubman Bars

. Metzler tires

. Also NEW in 2014 when it was brought into service to this spring.

. Transmission sprocket

. Rear Chain

. Speedo Drive Unit

. Barnett Clutch plates

. Caswell seal of gas tank for ethanol fuel

The bike shifts flawlessy. Starts easily and drives like a dream. It is nimble. light and very powerful. It can cruise nicely and when woken up. can compete in speed and handling with modern street and race bikes 30-40 years its?ˆ™ junior. Use it for weekend cruising. everyday commuting or racing on the weekends.

SO. the bike was bought new in 1971 in Maine. used to drive cross country directly after purchase for the owners honeymoon. driven daily logging @15k miles till 1974. The Tiger was then Caf?©?ˆ™d and used sparingly as other bikes now were filling the collection. It has always been stored in a heated shop where it sat on lift as the center piece of the collection. It was then torn down mechanically rebuilt fully as listed above (1000 miles and ten years ago).

This is the kind of build and design that the current craze is trying to copy. but was done when caf?©?ˆ™s were built to be ?ˆ?outside the box?ˆ? and ?ˆ?outlaw?ˆ™. not the latest cool thing. It was built with old school talent and knowledge 40 years ago. with quality and perfection unmatched with today?ˆ™s builders. It has been a privilege and joy to have in my life. even for a short period of time. But with 2 kids in college. I must pass the torch to another rider/collector.

Inspections are welcome. more photos are available if desired. International buyers are welcome. deposit via Paypal. full payment via wire transfer.

The bike will be sold with current registration and Bill of sale.
