Description

In the year of one of Britain's most celebrated of Royal marriages in 1981. Triumph Motorcycles of Meriden Coventry England produced a very unique limited edition special. This magnificent Bonneville Royal . What I have here is the rarer and I truly believe is the better of the two models made (They also produced an American version)This European model is finished in black and chrome with a silver painted frame. alloy Lester wheels and twin disc front brake and single disc rear. The chrome 4 gallon tank is again quite unique for Triumph. having only previously produced Chrome tank models for their prewar range. Although advertised as "only 250 models to be made". The numbers produced where actually quite different as this was determined by the order book coming in from the world market. The official factory records show that in fact only 156 black & chrome European models were produced. This bike was originally released from a dealer in Cambridge and one of the 156 for which its history has been traced back and authenticated via the VMCC. Being later registered for road use in February 1982. What had been done to this model since I acquired it. A top end refurbishment replacing piston rings. seals and gasketsReplaced Sprag starter clutchNew replacement wiring harness (original factory Triumph)Recovered seat and foam (Leightons)Refurbished rear shocks with original Marzocchi partsRefurbished front end including new hard chrome fork legs and powder coated in matt black legs headlamp shell and fork shroudsAlthough many owners took off the original Bing carbs and replaced them with Amals. I persevered and conquered the original factory flaws in the design of these carbs. which were made for BMW flat twins and not a quickly accelerating parallel 750 like this. This was achieved with upgraded jetting and slides. Although not perfect it is now very ride-able (The original Bings were not)Now as you probably know. Most of these were purchased by speculators and just stored away to go rusty. This one has not been. it is regularly ridden to events (special interest at the VMCC Founders day 2012). It is MOT'd and taxed every year and is currently as such. However with much regret I have to let this now go to a new owner to make space for other projects. And Finally I do have the very rare (they were either lost or stolen by collectors) the original Royal wedding crest badge for the Tank center bung. Viewing can be arranged by contacting me on the inquiry page. Payment preferred by cash on collection with an initial deposit and I can also arrange to ship this to any UK mainland destination. Ask me for a very reasonable quote ( Note I am not a dealer. I just understand how difficult it can be to collect a motorcycle like this) with payment taken in full in advance of shipping it to you. PS I can also supply you with an original factory released certificate of ownership (which is blank)You can fill in the details yourself if you choose to do so. These were only passed to owners which was then authenticated by the chairman of Triumph when an owner registered it with the dealer for road use. The problem was like most of them nobody did this. so having an original certificate completed for the original owner is rare.
