TRIUMPH T140V 1977 BONNEVILLE 750 US SPEC - MATCHING NUMBERS - FOR RESTORATION

TRIUMPH T140V BONNEVILLE 750 1977 US SPEC. MATCHING ENGINE/FRAME.  Triumph Bonneville T140V 750 1977 recently returned from the United States. Left foot gear change. It has matching engine and frame numbers. Mileage on the unoriginal speedo shows 27094. but it could be more or less as the speedo is from an earlier model. Engine/Frame JP 756**The engine runs with no untoward sounds. It has good compression and all gears select. It does smoke a little but this could easily be that the rings have become compressed due to being stood for sometime.  It has many original parts. the tank has been resprayed from that of the original. The paint on the frame is patchy with dullness and an over zealous power washer leaving rust on exposed parts such as the swinging arm.  Other points to mention are that:-The wheel rims are original Dunlop. with reasonable chrome - small areas could be polished out. and certainly would take a rechrome if the original rims are to be retained. The forks shrouds are slightly rusty and dulled.  The front mudguard has dents at the lower part but the chrome is good.  There are no exhaust roses at the cylinder head.  The rear disc has ridges on it and will have to be skimmed or replaced. The rear grab rail has been altered and is not original. So because of these points we have stated it to be in need of restoration. Some people could easily give it a check over. service and get it ready for an MOT as it stands. but others (and in our opinion) it would be better to give it a refurbishment/restoration.    Please study the pictures and make your own mind up.
