Up for auction is my ’72 CS5E 200 Street. The “E” stands for electric start. This bike is the immediate predecessor to the RD200. and is virtually the same except for the reed valves in the intake of the RD.
The bike has 895 original miles. and it has been preserved or restored where necessary to excellent mechanical and appearance condition. It got second place in the April. 2014 OC Vintage bike show in Huntington Beach. Everything on it works. and it runs and rides great. It is a blast to ride…light. quick. and great handling. The bike starts easily with either the electric or kick start. and shifts through the 5 gears smoothly. The brakes are excellent…the front being the same size twin-leading-shoe as on the contemporary R5 350. The auto lube system has new lines is properly adjusted and works as it should.
Some of the highlights of the work that has been done since 2013: Engine top-end. carbs. electrical system and forks rebuilt and engine tuned by Mach 1 Cycles of Costa Mesa. Machine work was by Q&E Machine. Santa Ana. Paint on tins by California Cycle Design. Costa Mesa. Chrome by Orange County Plating. The paint is base coat/clear coat. polished to perfection. The tank looks as perfect as a Faberge Egg. The bike has many NOS. and a few select reproduction parts as follows:
Tank Badges NOS Yamaha
Pistons. Rings. Pins (+. 5mm) NOS Yamaha
Fork Seals. Fork Nuts NOS Yamaha
Cables (tach. brake. speedo) NOS Yamaha
Brake and Clutch Levers New Yamaha
Footpeg. shift. kick rubbers New Yamaha
Stop Switch NOS Yamaha
Air Cleaner Boots Repro (neoprene)
Seat Cover Repro (perfect)
Blinkers Repro
Mirrors Repro
Rear Shocks Repro (from UK)
Most people will look at the bike and think it’s like brand new and perfect…but it is not. While most of the chrome has been re-done. the pipes and rear fender have not. and they have some light pitting. Those familiar with these vintage bikes will understand that it is 43 years old. and there are minor idiosyncrasies with its operation. Sometimes the engine stalls when shifting from neutral to 1st when it’s cold. and sometimes neutral is slightly difficult to select when it’s hot. There is a small oil leak on the left side from either the clutch pushrod. or the shifter seals. I have new seals for both that go with the bike. The generator light comes on at idle. but goes off as soon as the revs are just above idle. Charging system works perfectly. and I’ve never had to charge the battery. Rims are original and in great ship with minimal flaws.
The bike comes with the original Rider’s Manual. Factory Service Manual. and Parts Listing. I will also include a copy of the 1972 Cycle World road test article and original magazine advertisement for the bike.
Clear CA title in my name with current CA registration through April. 2015. I have the original key and fork-lock keys.
