Expected completion in mid March Ever popular and increasingly sought after retro twin. Yamaha captured the spirit of the British twin in this fine looking XS/TX model which is fitted with an all alloy engine which looks and feels as a 650 twin should. but remains oil tight and is so tough that they can be fitted with bored out top ends for off road sidecar racing. So many of these bikes have now been cannibalized or customised that finding original. unmolested examples . We purchase this bike as a non runner from a bulk importer of such 70's machinery and to our pleasure and surprise. it had not been ruined with detrimental accessories such as size XXXXL saddles to accommodate the over burgered . unlike so many imports. This bike came with a damaged speedo showing just 14. 00 miles which we still have. The bike cannot have been used for many decades as the petrol tank and twin taps had be be dredged with solid material. The carbs were dirty but not too bad. Several days of immersion in an ultrasonic tanks cleaned them up a treat. We found there was a spark on just one cylinder as one set of points was faulty . A new set of points restored the spark. Oil has been changed and filters cleaned. The bike purred into life after about half a dozen kicks . The electric start does not function which is pretty normal for these twins. We have had the bike for some months as it required refurbishment. rather than a complete restoration. Parts changed include most consumables :Spark plugsOne set of contact breaker points Drive chain and sprockets New tyres fittedYUASA BatteryFront brake padsFront brake caliper seals-to be completed Front brake master cylinder seals-to be completed Front fork sealsFront fork dust seals Front fork oilSteering head bearings Various cables Bodywork:Original. Imperfect but easily restored if required. HALFORDS do an excellent quality of black metal flake paint . Complete transfer kits for this particular model are available for ?45. The new owner may wish to refurbish the tank and panels but we have not done so . simply to help minimize cost Frame: Retouched in some places. Generally good ChromeLittle corrosion which is normal for US bikes. Some dinks in the front and rear mudguards mudguard . Exhaust chrome and general condition is good for a forty year old Jap bike.
