Description

YAMAHA XT250. 12 months full MOT no advisories.

If you are wanting to invest in a 1980's classic with not much restoration to do. then this is it!

I have been the owner of this bike since 1991 and as an avid trail rider and TRF member rode this bike all over the green lanes on Yorkshire & IOM. a brilliant tool for the job. In 1997 it was parked up in the workshop and left while young family etc were the priority. It never moved until a short while ago with the kids now older I decided to rejoin the TRF and pulled the bike out to start riding again. It was at that point I realised two things. One. how much trail bikes have come on over the years and two. what a state my faithful old XT was actually in. I bought a modern trial bike whilst I set about restoring the old XT and as is usually the case. once you start on a project like this you just keep going. The bike is obviously registered to me with V5 in my name. The beauty of bikes of this time is they are uncomplicated and easy to work on. The bike is generally in very good condition given that it is over 33yrs old and importantly is rust free ! Obviously wheel bearings. brakes etc all working as just sailed through MOT. As I spent so much time making it nice again. I am unlikely to use it for trail riding and so have decided to sell.

Please see below the list of work carried out and new parts fittedFrame 1) Frame stripped and powder coated (excellent condition)2 ) New genuine Yamaha swing arm bushes & grease points fitted3 ) New throttle cables (both)4 ) New front brake cable5 ) New Clutch Cable & de-compressor cable6 ) New back brake lever return spring & slide7 ) New rear shock pin8 ) New Yamaha XT250 Handlebars9 ) New replacement mirrors10) New front & rear tyres11 ) Tank sound with no rust and resprayed - It's OK but has a couple of small dents which I have tried to picture ( trying to be honest and it is 33yrs old )12 ) Seat newly recovered no tears or marks but could be better with fitted replacement cover easily purchased from eBay13 ) O Ring chain & Sprockets in good condition14 ) New Speedo cable fitted (New rev counter cable bought of ebay but not fitted and will be included)

EngineThe old engine was pretty well used so replaced with a complete rebuilt unit which has good compression and starts easily though a little noisy. It was described as being rebuilt and with new timing chain. Clutch works fine and all gears select easily 1 ) New genuine Yamaha XT250 exhaust system ( took some finding as genuine ones are rare ) 2 ) Keyster Carb rebuild. jets etc3 ) New oil & filter & plug4 ) New air filter element

As you can see a lot of time and money has been spent on this bike.

Bad pointsWhen I got this bike the battery had been wired out. As those who know. the head lights are on a separate AC generator as is the ignition system. the battery only being required for the indicators so not having a battery was one less thing to replace or worry about and for me didn't affect the running of the bike. This could be rectified if if you want it to be absolutley original and new wiring looms are easily available on eBay should you desire or need it. Was never a problem for me so left as was. As mentioned earlier the tank has been resprayed but is let down by a small ding on the top left and slight dint on right. Kick start pinion worn. is OK to start bike but would be better replaced.  Chrome headlight surround not particularly rusty but has seen better days. These are all minor points however I can supply a YouTube link to see & hear it running and happy to email more pictures should you wish. Please text or ring me on mobile 07511611398 if you have any questionsViewing is welcome and I am happy to answer any questions.

As you can see I have loved this bike for many years but have got to a stage where I am not going to use it and need the space These are becoming rare and very valuable as an investment. Easy restoration finish or just use as it is. Just passed 12 months full MOT with no advisories today. so can be ridden away (insurance & tax responsibility or purchaser). I have set no reserve however it is advertised elsewhere and reserve the right to end the auction early (Hence no buy it now price)

Now the boring bit. As there are people out there trying to scam I must request the following conditions. nbsp;I am an honest and fair person to deal with but would request the winning bidder to pay ?100 deposit via PayPal at the end of the auction and to pay the balance by BACS prior to collection which should be within 1 week of auction end. Please remember you are bidding to buy. I have tried to give a fair and honest appraisal of my bike but please contact me before the auction end if you require any clarifications - Good Luck & happy bidding !!!
