Description

1982 YAMAHA DT100 ENDURO

This is my 1982 Yamaha DT100 which I am selling as I no longer use it and I would like some space in my garage.

The bike is in unrestored condition. It is roadworthy and has 12 months MOT which runs until 6/3/16. I used it for commuting last year and it has been really fun to ride but somewhat limited on speed.

From early on. this bike was owned by members of the Trail Riders Federation. It was used to take part in trail riding for many years up to last year when it has finally been retired.

Many years ago. the original 18" front wheel rim was replaced with a 21" rim (the speedo reads slow due to this mod). The original Yamaha rear shock absorbers were replaced with longer Marzocchi units to give increased ground clearance.  The steel mudguards and rear light bracket were removed and replaced with plastic Montessa items as the originals no longer gave enough clearance for the new wheel. Wider trials handlebars were fitted. The rear chain guide was removed and an early Sammy Millar chain tensioner fixed in its place.

(I think Yambits sell the mudguards and stays for this model now).

The tyres were fitted last year and have loads of tread left. The front tyre is a Michelin trials competition tyre and the rear is a Cheng Shin trials tyre which I am impressed with.

The original rubber front footrests have been replaced with serrated metal ones for increased grip. The original ones come with the bike.

Both wheels have rim locks fitted to stop the tyres slipping.

I have fitted a new seat cover. The seat base was sound but had a few cracks in it. The cracks were expertly welded then the base was blasted and painted so the seat should be good for another 30 years!

The rear light/indicator holder is homemade. The Indictors are pattern parts that I fitted last year. The front indicator brackets that loop round the handlebars are homemade.

The autolube system works well and I fitted a new oil pipe to the carb as the old one was going hard.

The engine is in excellent condition with no knocks or rattles. It starts first or second kick all the time. All the electrics work as they were designed to.

I removed the cast iron cylinder barrel and aluminium cylinder head last year to have them bead blasted and re-painted. The barrel has no wear and is still at standard size. Whilst it was in bits I fitted a new old stock Yamaha piston. rings. gudgeon pin and little end bearing.

I also fitted new EBC clutch plates and rubber buffer rings into the clutch. Since doing this the clutch has dragged slightly making it difficult getting it into neutral when stationary. I think the plates need a little more filing or the metal plates could be warped.

The side stand has been lengthened to make up for the increased ground clearance.

Internally. the petrol tank was very rusty with a failed liner inside. I stripped out the liner and chemically removed the rust. This left around 10 pinholes around the petrol tap. I have sealed these with soft lead using an acid flux. It appears to be a really good repair and I will use this method again. The tank has no dents in it.

The front forks were rebuilt with new oil and seals. The chrome fork tubes are in good condition. The front wheel chrome plate had failed so this was removed inside and outside the rim. The rim is now painted with etch primer and silver paint. it's not brilliant but it does the job well.

I have got some new clutch levers and a good selection of front sprockets of different sizes to go with the bike.

It's a great little bike and looks great with it's age related patina. The engine sounds brilliant and always turns heads. People always comment on it. It is certainly not immaculate but it shows its had a life.
