1977 Yamaha XS 650 – stock bike with 7,680 miles – Very good condition

I bought this bike from the second owner who bought it from a dealer in the early 80s. rode it a few hundred miles and then put it in dry storage for 30+ years. While in storage he took care of it. kept it clean. changed the oil. and turned it over periodically. He had the disc brake caliper worked on when it was sticking. and took care of the bike with things like replacing the mufflers with new stock original mufflers because the old ones were showing signs of age. Along the way it picked up some condensation marks on the aluminum wheels and rear hub (See the pictures) but these can be professionally buffed out. It also shows some touch up paint on one of the side covers (again see the pictures) probably from a battery acid spill when the battery was being moved I would guess. You have to look closely to see the touch up – The indoor pictures I put here are under halogen lights which show everything As the pictures show this is a beautiful. unrestored. dead stock example of a great year and color for XS 650. This bike sounds. runs and rides great It comes with a Yamaha factory service manual; it also has the original factory tool kit. Here are some more details: The tank paint and side covers – except for the touch up paint I talk about above – are clear and glossy with no noticeable scratches. The rest of the frame is clean with a little rough patch here and there; but nothing anyone would really notice – except in bright light and under close inspection. A little time spent with black touch up paint will take care of most of those little rough spots. if you are that particular. The chain guard could use a coat of flat black paint (see the pictures). but there is no rust. All electronics are working as they should and the electric starter works well. It passed the state safety inspection last season. Suspension is smooth with good damping. Engine and transmission are sound. I rode it a few months last season to be sure I identified and worked out any issues. A few minor things is all I found and fixed. including: · Leaking petcocks – replaced old dried up rubber seals (tank had been stored bone dry) · Oil leak on oil filler dip stick – replaced cork gasket now oil tight · Oil Leak on valve cover – replaced O ring now oil tight · Oil leak on advance unit oil seal: Replaced oil seal now oil tight. · Bike is oil tight now – does not leak. Shifts though all the gears without issues. clutch engages smoothly and does not slip. Tank does not have rust inside that I can see – just clean metal – as I said it was stored dry and probably never saw ethanol before last summer (but I always run Startron in the fuel of my bikes anyways to deal with ethanol issues). I found nothing else mechanical that needs fixing. This bike sounds. runs and rides great. Tires have a lot of tread but are probably 30+ years old – they need to be replaced for safety reasons. Modern. sticky tires will handle much better anyways. This bike is easy to repair and parts are readily available and reasonably priced at Mikes XS as well as other suppliers. Oil was changed at the end of last season. Transmission shares engine oil with the motor.
