This sale is for my 1985 Yamaha Vmax A Classic Motorcycle being the First one ever imported into the U.K by Mitsui Yamaha.
This lovely old machine was exhibited at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham U. K. a centre well known World Wide
for the exhibition of motorvehicles.
In 1985 bike was loaned toThree Cross Motorcycles in Wimborne Dorset for display at an open weekend where it was seen by a customer a Mr David ODonnellwho professed an interest in purchasing it. It was explained that the bike was not for sale as it was to be exhibited at the NEC in Birmingham.
After the NEC exhibition the machine was transferred back to Three Cross Motorcycles who sold it to Mr ODonnell where it was first registered on the 17th January 1986
In 1989 the vehicle was sold toMr Martyn David the Vice President and Chief Counsel of the Occidental Oil Company the largest oil exploration company in the Worldoperating out of Houston Texas.
After further enquiries as to the Vmaxs provenance Mr David confirmed that this was in fact the same vehicle shown and exhibited at the NEC in Birmingham in 1985.
In total the bike has had seven ownersthe last owner having had the machine for over 10 years.
When I bought the Vmax I recognised from the paperwork attached that the bike had an historic interest. Upon investigation the letters and replies from Mitsui YamahaThree Cross Motorcyclesand previous owners I confirmed the machines provenance.
The Vmax comes with a complete folder of letters repliesphotographs of the bike at Three cross Motorcyclesand from the Birmingham NEC
I have also been able to contact the original owner Mr David ODonnell who confirms the above.
Knowing this machine to have such an outstanding provenance I arranged for an independant valuation undertaken by a Mr Julian Shoolheifer Ltd see www.ClassicCarvaluations.co.uk and his report is with the complete file on this bike.He stated and I quote " What sets this machine apart from other apparently similar V-maxes is its unusual and unique history."
Further quote " This year is the 30th anniversaryof the V-max and as markets for collectible vehicles prove on a regular basis it is the very first of any model and often the last of the line what appeal to collectors. Further any historyprovenance or specification that marks out a vehicle as " different" often has a bearing on value". End of quotes.
Considearble expense has been undertaken in sourcing various partsin placing this machine back to standard conditionincluding a complete re-paint to original colour. This included upgrading the original engine oil gallery (which in some machines has been found to be suspect ) with the latest new Yamaha oil gallery.
This Vmax is the first to be officially Imported into the UKshown by Yamaha at the Birmingham NEC soshould be of considerable interest to the discerning new owner.
The file contains original lettersrepliesand photographs confirming the provenancewhich have all been laminated.
This is truly an exceptional machineand one for the serious collector.
My Vmax was the subject of a superb editorial in The Motorcycle Sport and Leisure in this months edition ( June 2015 ) see photograph above. Stating 30 years of Excesscelebrating one of the most incredible bikes ever built. MSL has exclusively brought together Yamaha's latest machine and the first V-max to be imported to the U.K this it where it all began.
