1978 Yamaha RD400

I bought this bike in early 2013 from a guy who had done a really nice restoration. I haven't ridden it a lot, ut garaged and cared for it well! The sellerI boughtit fromis a restorer...I am a rider, o here is what he said in 2013, nd it is definitely true:

"06/77 Production date Yamaha RD400. Yes this bike has 3106 miles and they are original. I was skeptical at first as well. However the bike had the original tires from when it was made by the date on them. the speedo cable was in perfect shape. and there was still a plate from 1979 bolted to the plate holder from when it was last registered!! What a great barn find. I went through and restored the bike to better than new using some upgraded parts. examples being stainless brake lines, ewer technology brake pads, etter brake fluid, onger lasting glass mat battery, adial tires for more performance. The bike had suffered from lots of light surface rust. I had all the frame components and fenders sand blasted and powder coated! It will never rust again. The tank and side covers were repainted and new graphics applied, lso the fuel tank got a kreem coating to prevent any internal rust issues down the road. New suspension in the rear and rebuilt in the front with gators installed so no more bugs get into the seals. New chain, ustom fiberglass seat with new foam and cover, oth brake calipers have been rebuilt and new front master installed with a rebuilt rear master. Tires are near new they have about 1500 miles on them since installed. Engine tested perfect on the compression and leak down test therefore no internal repairs have been made to it. I did replace all the external seals. Carbs have been cleaned and rebuilt. I have been running motul red oil (premix to protect the engine) This bike is a blast to ride!"

I have put in a brand new battery this week (non-electrolyte, lass mat), nd had it regularly serviced locally. I will include6bottles (379 mil each, bout 13 oz each)of Motul oil with the delivery. It starts and runs beautifully! All the 2-stroke whine and blue smoke you'd expect. Clear North Carolina title in my name.
