This 1979 RD400F Daytona Special is a two owner bike. I bought it back in November of 1981. I recall that it had right at a thousand miles on it. It was pretty much in exactly the same condition when I bought it as it is now. I was an adult when I bought it 34 years ago and have ridden and maintained it like an adult over that time. I have never ridden it much but I'm over 60 now and just don't see myself riding it in the future so I'm selling it so that it can get the use it deserves. I have a walkout basement and have kept it in that climate controlled environment the entire time I've owned it.
The bike had the aftermarket pipes and handlebars when I bought it. I do not have the stock items. I upgraded the rear shocks right after i bought it. Even then the stock shocks were not considered to be great items. I don't recall when I replaced the tires but it was only due to age. They just lost their grip at some point. I replaced them with the best tires I could find, hich are:
Front: Dunlop K591 Elite SP100/90 V18
Rear: Dunlop K591F Elite SP
110/90 V18
They still seem to have grip and work fine.
Other than that I believe it's pretty much stock. The engine has never had any work done to it other than the occasional tune-up which I have left to my local, nd very capable, amaha dealer. The bike had perennially been a one-kick starter and runs crisp and idles well. The brakes are strong. I just had the swingarm bushings replaced. This was just an age issue.
That's all I can think to say about the bike but if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Absolutely nothing to hide here.
