1985 California Legal RZ500

Description

CA legal 1985 Yamaha RZ500 with 13K miles, elect modifications/upgrades and in very good condition.

The bike is mostly stock except for a Keihin PWK28 carb/petcockupgrade and Turfrey chambers withcarbon fiber silencersupgrade.

Engine was topped at approx. 8000 mi. by prev. owner, ostly due to bike sitting and not being ridden.

The original carbs, ipes, irrors, anuals, tand and a set of Yamaha top end rings are included with the bike.

California registration is good to August2016 and the bike comes with the personalized RZ5OO license plate.

Maintenance performed in the last year, hich has been less than 1000 miles, ncludes;

- Fr/Rr Bridgestone Battlax tires

- Plugs and coils

- Updated voltage rectifier

- Transmission oil

- Coolant

- Brake fluid

- Silencers repacked

- Battery w/trickle plug

- What are things to look for on RZ500's, hy, nd how is this bike in those areas?

- Rust inside fuel tank due to age, itting, ld fuel, ad cap

- This tank and cap are in excellent condition

- Charging system not working, ritical for YPVS and tach/temp gauges working properly

- Original rectifiers would fail, his bike has the upgraded -03 rectifier and charges properly

- YPVS valves freezing in place due to carbon/lack of use

- YPVS valves operated regularly, ork properly

- Fouling of plugs due to rich mixture, xcess oil, oil ground or petcock leaking

- Since the PWK conversion, n/off petcocks, oils, ever a fouled plug

- Oil injection pump issues including check valves leaking causing excessive start smoke/fouling

- Runs properly on Yamaha oil injection, heck valves working properly

- Petcock seal failure resulting in fuel leaking into engine/on ground

- Dedicated left and right petcocks on this bike with "off" function prevent flooding/fuel spills

- Overheating

- When the Keihin conversion removed the stock airbox, his opened up significantly more

airflow through the radiator, ever overheats and electric fan works properly.

- Brittle plastic bodywork due to heat/age/removal

- Most RZ500's that have been ridden have some level of brittle bodywork due to

plastic technology at the time, eat and age. A second/spare set of bodywork is recommended

- Corrosion/degradation due to age/location

- Has some mild corrosion on the forks/master that has been wheeled off, inor pitting on upper tubes, ould be refinished to make bike perfect

- Two panels have some cracks from age/heat/removal which aren't visible from the outside, retty standard on an RZ500 that's ridden and not stored

- Never with me and not that I'm aware of prior

- What does the bike need right now?

- Nothing to be a daily rider. The bike has been ridden while I've had it and looks like a rider with

misc. minor blems., irt, xidation etc.,not a show bike. If someone wanted to bring it up to modern handling or in looks,

there are numerous suspension swaps that allow better performance. Someone could also

nut/bolt disassemble for a show bike aspect, he original carbs, ipes and mirrors are included.

- Originally was going to ride it for a year or two then restomod it with modern R6

suspension etc., imeavailable due to work/family has changed so passing it on to someone else
