In June 2012, bought this excellent 2012 Yamaha Raider S Raven from the largest H-D dealership in our area. The “S” stand for more chrome -- I’ll say a bit more about that in a minute. The “Raven” means black shiny shiny paint.

First, t’s obvious that someone like Star (the Yamaha motorcycle company) wasn’t some of those H-D big spenders. An article I read asks, Why not? When it comes to cruisers bigger than 900cc, tar says its sales ride cupcake only to H-D, nd that it sells more than twice as many over-900cc cruisers as the next metric manufacturer. Furthermore, he Star Raider (say the Star people) is the biggest-selling big (over 1301cc) metric cruiser sold, ith over three times the sales volume of the second-place big cruiser. Which is pretty impressive. And you can see why if you’re a cruiser guy: Star’s 1854cc (113 cubic inch) air-cooled V-Twin looks the part and walks the walk. In a category where style is paramount, lot of buyers seem to agree that Star got it right with the Raider (especially if an unstated goal is to sell the buyer new exhaust pipes immediately). And when it comes to quality paint and chrome, he Stars are right up there with the best.” (That was from John Burns in CycleWorld article, 2012 Star Motorcycles – First Look.”)

Well, r. Burns nailed it with me. I rode a pristine 1998 H-D Sportster 1200 with 4500 miles on it but couldn’t stand the vibration and I wanted something nicer looking and bigger. I was REAL hesitant to buy a bike this size – kinda scared me.to be honest. But, t is a BEAUTIFUL bike and I made the purchase.

Back to the “S” designation. They say, If you liked the Raider but still feel like you'd be happier with a lot of chrome on your bike, hen the 2012 Raider S is the bike for you: a classic chopper styling mixed with the best modern-day technology Yamaha has to offer, ll packed into a bike with a sleek yet commanding look and huge dual exhausts.” What I got from that is, nd it’s true, means more Chrome.

When I got on it for the first time and road off that summer afternoon, was blown away. It was easier than any bike I’d ridden with super balance, low seating profile (I’m only 5’ 8”), nd awesome engineering. I was and still am amazed at how smooth, eautiful and FAST this 1854cc Yamaha Raider S is! I’ve met all the horses packed into these 1854cc’s. And yet, t’s extremely easy to ride. Someone wrote, [the] powerful fuel injection 1854cc V-twin with throttle position sensor ensuring fast, redictable and lag-free acceleration for a confident ride.” Yup, o lag that’s for sure.

So why sell it? I travel constantly and I have a big family. I’ve cruised 1165 miles on it since June 2012! It’s in pristine, how room condition. Those 1165 miles have come when I needed some therapy—30 minutes here and there on a warm summer night, n hour on rare occasion on an early Saturday morning before all the daughters woke up, nd the occasional, iddle-of-the-afternoon cruise on a superb spring or fall day. (But, gotta say, hen the weather warmed up occasionally in the winter, e would get re-acquainted again during the hibernation.)

Anyway, hough I’m reluctant to part with a beautiful piece of engineering, here’s no sense in keeping the insurance and registration going when I don’t ride but an average of 29 miles a month (!!!).

Also, y 2012 Yamaha Raider S comes with a Cruiselite Custom Soft Tank bag and a full cover. The tank bag costs about $123 new (plus S&H) and the cover was solely for keeping dust in the garage off of it. Guess I spoiled her didn’t I?!?)

Finally, did a lot of research before I bought this 2012 Yamaha Raider S (of which I have zero regrets!). I read a lot of articles like the one below. Thought you might like to see EXACTLY what my experience has been and it concludes a great description of the bike’s specs – perhaps a little more than you need but… Enjoy and good luck!

Please Note: I bought a 48month Yamaha Extended Service Contract (Y.E.S) that expires on 6/29/2017. Yamaha covered the first year and the Y.E.S covers to 2017. It says it fully transferrable. The pro-rated balance of the Warranty is valued at $328 and it’s built into my reserve. If, or some reason, he Warranty can’t be transferred, ’m happy to refund this amount. Straight up and fair.

A couple of housekeeping things--

Pricing: You can do the math on what something is worth on KBB or NADA or other sources. For example, BB says this bike, n excellent condition with the tank bag, s worth $8,840 with 16,000 miles on it (!!!). My 2012 Yamaha Raider is in excellent condition and has only 1,165 miles on it!. AND, his comes with the balance of the transferable Warranty. I think NADA is even higher in their pricing.

Also, he sale includes a full cover!

Finally, n shipping, 'll leave that with you to arrange as that's the easiest way. I can certainly do it but would need to get the accurate quotes, hare with you and then have you deposit the money in my Paypal account OR include it with your check for the bike. Your call.

· Maximum torque occurs at 2,500 rpm while maximum power occurs at 4,500 rpm, roviding exciting acceleration with great pulse and torque feel.

· Traditional pushrod valve actuation keeps engine height down for a lower center of gravity and ensures more uniform heat dissipation due to absence of a cam chain case. A lower center of gravity helps to ensure light, asy handling.

· Four-valve cylinder heads provide optimal breathingefficiencyfor great power delivery at all rpms. The two spark plugs per cylinder means faster, ore complete combustion for maximum power output.

· Cylinder heads utilizes a pent roof combustion chamber design and features an oil passage near the exhaust valve seat to improve cooling and durability. The heads also feature engine mounting points on each side of the head for increased chassis rigidity for exceptional handling.

The balancers are positioned on either end of the crankshaft to reduce vibration and to minimize the size of the engine cases. The balancer is designed to reduce vibration while still allowing that classic V-twin pulse feel.

· 3-axis crankcase layout means the crankshaft, ain axle and drive shaft are specially arranged to minimize the size of the engine cases and centralize mass.

· The dry sump oil lubrication system has been optimized to ensure maximum lubrication and cooling. Special oil nozzles direct oil at the bottom of the pistons to cool and lubricate them. Dry sump system means a more compact engine design since the oil tank is not part of the engine, hich lowers the center of gravity for great handling and a light feel.

· Special "dual chamber" crankcase design. The front section is for the crank assembly while the rear is for the transmission. Two, -rotor high capacity oil pumps optimizes oil flow in each of the two main sections of the engine.

· Huge 100mm ceramic composite-plated cylinder bores provide uniform heat dissipation, educe weight, educe friction and increase cylinder service life.

· Large-diameter pistons are both durable and lightweight. Yamaha's exclusive "controlled forged construction" keeps the pistons light for faster response and to accommodate higher rpms with reduced vibration and less reciprocating mass. The pistons feature an Alumite coating to reduce friction.

· Cooling fin thickness and depth is optimized for maximum heat dissipation, hereby eliminating the need for liquid cooling, hile maintaining that traditional, tylish air-cooled engine appearance. Each cooling fin is specially machined to create shining highlights that change with the angle of the light.

· 43mm, win-bore, owndraft throttle body fuel injection (FI) with throttle position sensor (TPS) ensures great throttle response and maximum power throughout the rev range. This system is a "closed loop" system, ince it utilizes an oxygen sensor in the exhaust to monitor the concentration of oxygen and adjust the FI system if necessary. The benefits of fuel injection include chokeless operation, ncreased fuel economy, nstant throttle response and reduced emissions.

· The 12-hole, -directional Mikuni fuel injectors produce a wide spray pattern for complete cylinder filling. This special spray pattern combined with the dual spark plug heads ensures complete combustion for maximum power. An Idle Speed Control (ISC) has been adopted to ensure stable idling performance.

· High capacity electronic fuel pump is located in the sub fuel tank under the seat.

· State-of-the-art Electronic Control Unit (ECU) ensures precisely metered fuel delivery and optimal ignition spark control using 3D mapping for each cylinder.

· 3.5 liter dual inlet airbox features one inlet at the front and one at the rear for maximum breathing efficiency. This design not only maximizes air flow but also reduces weight and allows for a more open appearance at the steering head area. A viscous paper type air filter is used.

· Air Induction System (AIS) injects fresh oxygen at the exhaust port to ensure complete combustion thereby reducing harmful exhaust emissions (HC & CO) while a special air cut valve reduces backfiring when decelerating or coasting off throttle.

· High-performance, -into-1-into-2 exhaust system features large size header pipes for maximum flow. Dual 3-way honeycomb matrix catalyzers reduce harmful exhaust emissions. The stylish dual muffler helps to boost torque and horsepower while producing a throaty, -twin growl. Heat shieldsprotectthe rider and passenger from hot components.

· The exhaust system also features a lightweight titanium EXUP exhaust power valve most commonly found on high performance sport bikes. The EXUP system not only provides crisp throttle response and eliminates 'flat spots" but also improves acceleration, educes fuel consumption and harmful emissions too.

· Smooth-shifting, -speed transmission features optimized gear ratios for both strong low rpm acceleration and relaxed highway cruising. 5th gear is an overdrive gear for reduced engine rpms at highway speeds for maximum riding comfort.

· Heavy duty 10 plate clutch is designed to complement engine power characteristics. This clutch is operated by a hydraulic master cylinder instead of a cable. The hydraulic clutch design is low maintenance, elf-adjusting and stylish too.

· Low-maintenance belt drive system not only significantly reduces maintenance but is also clean and quiet. A belt drive system uses less power than a shaft drive and reduces unsprung weight for great rear suspension performance. The belt is embedded with carbon fiber cords for incredible strength and durability.

· Easy access, pin-on type oil filter means fast, asy oil changes.

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION

· High-tech, ast aluminum double-cradle frame reduces weight, hile balancing strength and rigidity. The engine is rigidly mounted in the frame for added rigidity. The critical head pipe area features box type construction for additional strength. The frame not only provides excellent handling characteristics but also compliments the beautiful flowing lines of the entire machine. The open area behind and below the steering head helps to enhance that "chopper inspired" styling image. The main front wire harness is hidden in the head pipe for a clean appearance.

· Important Note: Raked out front fork with lots of trail generally provides good straight line stability but often results in heavy steering. The engineers at Yamaha will not sacrifice handling for styling, o they have developed a 6 degree yoke offset angle combined with a 34 degree steering head for a total fork angle of 40 degrees. The Raider provides light "athletic handling and easy steering" not commonly found on a custom styled bike. This bike was designed to be ridden!! Key numbers: 6 degree yoke offset angle; 34 degree caster angle; 102mm of trail.

· Lightweight C.F. die cast aluminum swing arm offers superb rigidity and ensures excellent stability and handling. The C.F. die casting process allows for beautiful shapes that are both strong and light. This swing arm is a fashion statement in aluminum and compliments the rest of the Raider's eye catching styling.

· Rigid 46mm Kayaba front fork offers 130mm (5.1") of wheel travel for exceptionally stable handling and great ride comfort. The inner fork tubes are protected by stylish chrome chip guards.

· Beefy, ast aluminum, op triple clamp andcomputerdesigned lower triple clamp with a 6 degree yoke angle provides excellent handling qualities while maintaining that custom chopper inspired styling.

· Link rear suspension features a spring preload adjustable single rear shock delivering outstanding ride comfort and precise handling. The Kayaba shock is horizontally positioned under the engine lowering the center of gravity for great handling. The shock is hidden to provide that classic "hardtail" look. Rear wheel travel is 90mm (3.5").

· Powerful dual 298mm floating front discs are squeezed by ultra-rigid, -piston, onoblack calipers to provide sport-bike spec stopping power with great lever feel and feedback.

· Beautiful custom looking 5-spoke cast aluminum 21" front wheel provides a special styling highlight. The width is 3.50 inches wide and is fitted with a 120/70 profile tire. The rear wheel is also a custom inspired 5-spoke 18 inch cast aluminum mag design that is 7.5 inches wide. This rear wheel carries the widest rear tire ever installed on a Yamaha motorcycle … it is a 210 / 40 tire. Both wheels are fitted with tubeless tires.

· Large 310mm rear disc is squeezed by a single piston caliper mounted below the swing arm for a lower center of gravity and that customized "hidden look".

· Two-piece seat design features a deep notch in the rider seat to give that chopper inspired riding position … more sitting in than sitting on. The rear portion of the rider's seat also doubles as a back support for the rider.
