Description

I like old bikes but don't have room for them all. This is a one-year-only model, 1972 Yamaha DS7 250cc twin, ibling to the equally famous R5 and RD350 models. This one has lived all its life in Durham and Siler City except for a few years in Alabama. I bought it from a guy who bought it when he graduated Duke in 1973. He had it all that time until I got it last year. It has new tires, new chain, ew sprockets, new battery. The engine was professionally rebuilt and the seat professionally reupholstered some time in the last 15-20 years. It leaves a drip or two on the garage floor now and then, haven't looked into it yet. All the electrics work and it runs and drives well. Starts purring on the first kick. I have not cleaned it up and polished it and tweaked it to perfection yet, ut you can ride it today. If and when I get around to dolling it up, he price will go up. Great bike, reat history.
According to wikipedia:TheYamahaDS7 motorcyclewas made in 1972 for one year. It is a 250cc twin 2 stroke. The DS7 makes 30hp @ 7,500 rpm. Top speed is 93mph. 12v battery ignition. 5 speed. 1/4 mile in 14.8 seconds.

The DS7 is the initial forerunner of the Yamaha RD series of motorcycles started in 1973. The major difference between the 250 cc DS7 and 350 cc R5 of 1972 and the 1973 RD250 and RD350 was that the DS7 and R5 utilized piston-port induction, hereas the RDs were introduced with reed valve induction.
