1978 YAMAHA DT 400 E - 4,080 Original Miles
1st Year of the Rear Mono-Shock design.
The bike was stored for many years under a blanket in a heated shop - out of sight - out of mind - forgotten. It has retained it's bones!
I am the 3rd OwnerandI spent a year &half slowly going through a restoration process.
Also almost every "renewable part" has been replaced for safe & reliable operation. I wanted this bike to be like new and BOTH able to be ridden with confidence or go straight into a collection/museum. I have drove itapproximately 400 miles last summer in 3 different Vintage rides to allow for any adjustments and to verify there were no issues un-addressed. It ran great without any incidents (other then a 12 volt blub got put in the tail light instead of the correct 6 volt - quickly fixed)
I have added the Maximum number of 24 HD pictures which can also be enlarged further. Please study them closely.
Here is a listof the main things that have been done to make the bike as close to it's original YAMAHA OEM condition (Not in any order)
1- Professional Re-paint using OEM color codes / OEM decals and two applications of clear coat - buffed out to a mirror finish.
2- The top end of the engine was sent to COMETIC in Concord, hio where it was re-sleeved & ported to Yamaha OME specs and sized to .002 clearance - original Yamaha specs with a new Yamaha OEM Piston / Rings / Wrist Pin / Wrist Pin Bearing and all new gaskets throughout to make it totally fresh and new.
3- Frame wasRe-painted and all 3 grounding wires are now attached to bare metal surfaces.
4- Carb was totally rebuilt with OEM Yamaha parts - needle / float needle & seat / pilot jet / #190 Main jet / Float / Gaskets Etc.
5- Oil pump cleaned and proper operation verified and adjusted to specs.
6- New tires front & Rear / tubes / Rubber Rim Bands / rims trued and spokes adjusted as needed. The wheels are alloy and only needed cleaning and buffing.
7- New brake shoes front & Rear.
8- New fork seals & 15w fork oil installed.
9- New GOLD - DID O-ring chain - and - Front & Rear sprockets.
10- New Reed Valves installed.
11- Installed new updated Pulser Pick Up Coil for max electrical output.
12- New battery.
13- New clutch cable.
14- New Transmission oil and new Two Stroke oil in the injector oil tank.
15- New engine case bolts for that new fresh look.
16- Battery tender hookup.
The only reason I am selling this beautiful motorcycle as that I am now slowly moving my collection towards Japan Domestic Market bikes that were never available here in the United States and I only have so much room. I am only selling my current collection as new JDM bikes are acquired.
