Description

1980 Yamaha XS1100G

This is the standard model with the normal riding position, ot the custom inspired “special” with buckhorn bars. These standards were typically used for touring because of their size and low maintenance shaft drive and typically have much higher miles. This one was used for shorter trips. As such, he mufflers both developed large holes in them from condensation that built up from not getting hot enough on shorter trips. I replaced them with Dunstall replica slip-ons from EMGO and used the original headers which are in great shape. You probably cannot find one of these bikes with original mufflers on them that are in good shape. There is a company in Australia that can still manufacture a complete reproduction exhaust system if you have no budget to speak of.

I disassembled, ltrasonically cleaned and rebuilt the carburetors with new o-rings and vacuum balanced them. The original CV diaphragms were in great condition along with the mikuni jets – no changes were made to jetting from stock. The rubber intake manifolds were replaced with genuine Yamaha at this time. Fuel lines were replaced along with the petcocks. The air filter was replaced with a new K&N. Basically the fuel system has been gone through from top to bottom. As tuned, t works well with the Dunstall mufflers, hich sound great.

Dunlop tires are about 3 years old and have less than 1000 miles on them. I have been running Valvoline 20w-50 synthetic motorcycle oil and it has been running cool and smooth with no clutch slippage. Pretty much everything else I know of about the bike is stock. It is exceptionally nice.

Cosmetically, aint on tank, ide covers and rear cowl is excellent and original. Chrome on the filler cap, ignals, ar, nd exhaust is excellent. Engine cases are beautiful with very little if any corrosion – free from any damage or leaks. Bike shifts smooth and pulls very well through all gears. Seat is excellent. Frame paint is excellent (you'll notice a bit of battery acid leaked onto the frame at some point). Wheels are also excellent. Gauges are very clear and work flawlessly. All electrics work. Cast wheels are in great condition. The bike is not showroom condition and has very minute flaws you would expect from something that was used gently and cared for.

The front brake master cylinder is a little sticky so I have purchased a Yamaha rebuild kit that will come with the bike. That is the only issue I am aware of. Not sure if I’ve missed something but let me know. I tried to take pictures of all angles. I bought the bike from the son of the original owner. Son had it for a year and then decided hewanted a Harley. The pictures really tell the story about the condition and how it has been cared for.

Call or text with any questions with XS in the subject line 773-470-8388. Bike must be paid for in full before it leaves my garage. If after you come and inspect the vehicle you decide it is not as I’ve described you will receive a full refund of your deposit. I’m convinced you will want it. You may never see an unrestored XS this nice again.
