Up for auction is an original unrestored 1976 Yamaha XT500, hat I am selling for a friend/customer as I have done all the work on this bike personally. This bike was purchased from the original owner around a year ago at which point I did a complete maintenance of all the mechanicals to include:
New IRC tires, ubes, im stripsNew Yamaha OEM fork seals (the pattern/copy seals never seem to work as well) and Motul fork oil.New EBC brake shoes front and rearlubed all cables and zirk fittingsNew batteryChecked and lubed front and rear wheel bearingsNew bulbs in gaugesChecked swing arm bushings and lubed no slack or playChecked headset bearings no slack or playAdjusted valves and timing chain tensionerChanged oil and filterInstalled new Yamaha air filterNew front KEDO fender that is as close to original as you can get.New RK o-ring chain and sprocketsCompletely rebuilt carb with gaskets and all new jets including needle, eat, loat valve and seat. All Yamaha partsNew rubber from back of carb to air box. Also replaced the square plastic box between the rubber from the back of the carb and the actual air box as it was cracked (very common)All this work was done within the last year/500 miles.
I have owned no less than 10 SR, T, nd TT 500's over the years and this bike is very special due to it's original unmolested condition. The motor has never been apart or painted and sounds very tight like a new xt. It never smokes even when started dead cold. The original owner had a touring fairing on the front of the bike so it never got abused or raced in any way. It shifts perfectly, he clutch does not slip, ind, r lurch and has an easy pull at the lever. The carb does not leak, or does the petcock or anywhere on the motor. The original exhaust is not rotted anywhere with any kind of patch work etc. (I did remove it and paint it with a new header gasket). The rims are perfectly true with no hidden cracks or loose spokes, he brakes do not pulse and work nicely. The gauges work as do all the lights including the front and rear brake light switches, roviding the battery is charged. The handlebars are original and are not bent. The registration compartment is intact on the battery side as is the tool kit box with latch and original tool kit on the kickstart side. The seat cover is the original with no rips, r blems of any kind not a redo which is close but not exact as the shine is different. (I have two personal TT500's one with the original and one with the pit pal seat cover from Thailand and they are exact except for the sheen/shine. The original is a little glossier)The gas tank is also original paint with no dents but shows a couple rock chips as shown in the pics. Definitely not a candidate for a redo. The inside is rust free and clean.I have spent hours cleaning the wheels and they look very nice and shiny. This bike is never hard to start as long as you know the drill and is a complete pleasure to ride with no hidden problems or unattended issues.
I personally own about 35 vintage motorcycles mostly two strokes from the 70's and 80's and always keep a TT/XT around to revive my faith in vintage bike ownership when everything else has something that needs time, uning, r money thrown at it. There are days when the tolerance well has run dry and these things always run and put a smile on your face.
The bike has a current california title, ith up to date registration.
The front mirror has lost its chrome finish and the original grips though not ripped could stand to be replaced. I left them on purposely to validate the originality of this bike. Yamaha still sells original grips and there is a pair of new, orrect tuning fork mirrors on ebay as of this writing for less than a 100 bucks.
This bike will make a fine addition to anyones collection and will provide years of enjoyment with very little input other than routine maintenance.Bid with confidence and feel free to ask questions as I don't mind taking calls or answering emails regarding motorcycles.Oversees buyers are welcome and I can store the bike inside in a safe, onditioned space while you make shipping arrangements. My USA postal code for pickup is 95688That said all shipping costs, oordination, tc. are the buyers responsibility. I will take multiple pictures while the bike is being loaded and make sure the bike is being loaded in a correct manner.
Good luck, ark 707 333 5762 Pacific time 7am to 9pm
