Introduced in 2008, he Roadliner S is a well equipped high-end power cruiser well equipped for the wars in that market segment. It leaves no one indifferent with its Art Deco style, bundant chrome, nd impressive dimensions, ore than enough to fight off the competition at that rarefied level.
Smooth and efficient drive-train
The responsive 1,854cc twin-cylinder engine impressed me with abundant acceleration for a relatively heavy bike, ven when it was fully loaded for touring.
The Yamaha engineers developed this engine specifically for the cruiser market, here low is king – as in low bike, eat, ngine and center of gravity. And the 48-degree V-Twin delivers, ith rocker-actuated valves and a relatively large bore to lower the cylinder heads as well as provide maximum torque where it lives, .e. at low rpm.
The good old Yamaha EXUP power valve, n titanium no less and controlled by the on-board computer, ses a sophisticated butterfly to regulate the exhaust flow and thus optimize torque at low engine speeds (smaller opening) and power (larger opening). Finally, wo balance shafts largely eliminate the big mill’s vibrations and contribute to its smoothness.
The gearbox never flinches, hifting gears smoothly and easily.
A chassis worthy of the machine
The Roadliner’s aluminum chassis, imilar to theRoad Star Warrior, elivers an effective mix of stiffness, turdiness and lightness, nd benefits from forging and welding techniques that increase quality while reducing production costs.
the rear suspension proves comfortable on smooth surfaces, nd lives up to your expectations on bumpy roads, ot forcing you to slow down in corners to maintain the proper trajectory.
The flawless braking system, ith two 298-mm front discs and four-piston calipers, esponds we
at both high and low speeds, nd even better when the big rear disc is called into play.
Stylish and comfortable ergos
Yamaha’s designers worked hard to give theRoadliner Sa unique appearance; the chromed parts stand out and every detail of the oh-so careful finish leap out at you. Just look at the wide seat, he large-diameter handlebars that conceal the usually visible wires and the impressive chromed brake and clutch master cylinders. The Roadliner is somewhat reminiscent of the Harley Davidson Road King, ith its combination of fork, ork shrouds and two-bulb headlight, ne for low beam and one for high beam.
The instruments are well designed and easy to read, nd an old-style clock adorns the center of the gas tank. An analogue speedometer, digital tach and a fuel gauge are also included.
On the road
This Roadliner is a true gem: nimble, uick, esponsive, owerful – quite an impressive machine Outstanding cruising qualities put it in a class of its own. Both torque and power make their dominating presence known when you start it up, ith an immediate and powerful throttle response right off idle. Though it seems heavy, he S is easy to ride and tracks perfectly in high and low speed corners. The S is always comfortable on smooth roads, ut try different rear pre-load settings on extemely bumpy roads.
