Description

  • This is my latest project bike that has to be sold before completion due topersonal reasons. It's an RD frame with an R5 bottom end on a reed valve RD350 top end. I used all the body work and lightweight parts from a 1985 Honda CBX250RSE (check the pics) to make a unique, ery lighttwo stroke rocket. The motor was rebuilt and a new top end was fitted with Pro X pistons and a bore by RB Designs out of Portland. Here is a quick run down;

  • Rebuilt engine with new gaskets, eals and bearing / hard parts where needed
  • Rebuilt properly jetted carbs (Bike starts on 2 kicks when cold and 1 when warmed up)
  • New Uni dual foam filters
  • New points condensers/ wires/plugs/ caps
  • Modern SQL regulator (weighs about 3 ounces and 10 times more efficient than the original version)
  • New VR166 regulator (Ford part, eliable and way better than oem Yamaha
  • New chain front sprocket
  • Front dual piston Tokico caliper with new pads (great feel and super strong)
  • Stainless braided brake lines
  • Upgraded large diameter front rotor from a CR500 (half as thick as the original)
  • New DG chambers
  • Gauges are from the CBX250 and the speedo/odo work(in Kilometers)
  • New LED signals, ll work with upgraded flasher
  • Upgraded short clutch cable (Ninja 250)
  • Billet clip ons (pretty sure these are Woodcrafts)
  • Piggyback shocks (CBX250)
  • Custom rear sets with pegsand controls from GSXR
  • New tapered steering head bearings
  • New Avon Roadrunner tires
  • 1/4 turn straight pull throttle
  • Stainless steel allen head bolts on the entire engine

This bike was built using the RD frame with the CBX frame grafted on the back behind the rear shocks. I have retained the keyed helmet lock, rab handlesand seat lock and steering lock (the ignition and fork lock uses a Yamaha key and the seat and gas cap lock are Honda (sorry). The wheels are from the CBX, he rear is a 2.15 X 18 and the front is a 1.85 X 18 with really cool spokes that have flats on the front and back never seen anything like that before. The hubs are the same as the Honda XL 250 so parts shouldn't be an issue. The forks are late model FZR600 versions with fresh seals and oil. The swing arm is from the CBX as well its a box section that about 3.5 inches over length from stock, robably an inch or so longer than optimum but it keeps the front end down and hasn't slowed the turn in much while aiding stability. The bike fires right up and falls into a smooth idle. I just got this running and only put 25 kilometers on it, es the speedo and odo are in kilometers. It's very light handles great stops quick and well the 2 stroke thing is a blast. I do not have the time to break this in or do any more work on it as I am shipping out overseas. To be sure you know what your looking at this bike needs paint, he white is a primer only and for sure looks better in the pictures than real life. The motor still needs to broken in so I have not run it hard yet. There is no tach or horn (the wiring is there for a horn) it has a clean California title in my name currently on non op status. Myasking priceworks out to about ten cents an hour for my labor, ut I knew that going in.Bike starts first kick and runs the way it's supposed too. Now the deltas to consider, lutch pull is too stiff in my opinion but these bikes are generally shifting without clutching (think dirt bike). The tank was in poor shape and I sealed it with Redkote which is amazing stuff but needs to be monitored. If you're taller than 6 feet its going to be cramped.Remember, you must premix, just add 4 ounces of oil to each gallon of gas. There are 2 small holes in the top of the seat about the size of a pin head and a hairline crack in the tail lamp lens. The brake light works, s does the headlamp and turn signals.
When I built this I was careful to allow it to be returned (some what) to original so you can ditch the Honda body work and return to a Yamaha tank by adding a new rear tank mount, ront is still stock. The grafting of the frame was all done behind the rear shocks with bracing so you could cut it off, dd a loop and go retro caf?. Lost of other things were considered during the build so please just ask me if you have any questions. I would prefer interested buyers would come and see the bike in person but that's not always possible so please please ask me if you need a pic or have a question.
