Yamaha DT50 MX 1986 50cc classic moped DT50MX

Description

We bought this DT for my son's 15th birthday and spent 12 months stripping it back to the bare frame and replacing whatever was needed to make this a reliable bike in time for his 16th birthday.   He has now ridden it. almost daily. for 12 months and moved on to a 125 (Aprilia) so the DT has to go.   It is a pity really as it reminds me of my own youth!

During the rebuild we fitted new

and a whole load of other small items that I cannot remember.

Good points:

Reliable bike with 10 months MOT and TaxRebuilt to use daily. and used daily for the past 12 months

Bad points:

Paintwork on panels and tank is not great. Speedo currently not working (drive fault in wheel hub)

All in all this is a good honest classic 50.   It is pretty fast and has an oversize piston!  It is not rebuilt to show standard but it starts first kick and is usable every day.   Much better than a modern cheap import and a good conversation starter (everyone says 'I used to have one of those').   Currently running on pre-mix but pump. oil tank etc all there (we just like the safety of pre-mix).   The seat has one repair on it.
