1977 Yamaha XS500 - Project Bike - NOT CX500 - NOT XS650

1977 Yamaha XS500 PROJECTBelieve it or not. I wasn't drunk when I bought this. If you're not drunk while you're looking at this. please go away and get drunk them come back and start bidding like crazy. I bought this bike in exactly the condition you see now. I bought it as a runner but so far I haven't had it started. It's for sale because I want a runner I can do body/frame work on not an electrical project. Also. I'm 6'2" and it's too low for me. The controls are too close to the seat base to be as low as it is. Key and V5 present. last MOT expired in September 2012. This is not a barn find. just a project bike that has been off the road for a couple of years. The engine is free. the kicker will just about start it but not quite. There are a couple of electrical problems on it but it's broadly there. A charged battery will get the lights and stuff powered and the starter intermittently clicks but not always. Some aftermarket fuses have been cut into the wiring loom. I suspect the previous owner was doing a bit of troubleshooting. The seating position has been lowered and it's partly bobbed. It's got a custom made. very well made. seat and rear mudguard fitted. Some of the frame modifications are not pretty but they're solid and sound. A route back to a standard frame and seating position. or a brat-style converstion is pretty obvious and achievable. A brat is how I would go with this bike. the tank and bar position are too high for a good looking cafe bike. I'd rather sell this to someone who came to see it to avoid the kind of disappointment I experienced when it was delivered. I have some spares. they'll come with the bike if I get decent money for it. If you can't come and see it. let me know and I'll send you loads of photos of the good/bad bits. The bike is stored in Fife. near Rosyth. Come and see it. we can do a deal. I promise good cake and biscuits to viewers if nothing else.
