AMERICAN EAGLE 405 TALON YAMAHA 360 POWERED

This is a very rare American Eagle 405 Talon. The bike itself is in very good condition for a 40 year old dirt bike. It has is collection of scratches and scrapes but everything looks straight and serviceable. The tank looks like it has been hit by the rider's knee on the left side but doesn't show any evidence of leaking or seepage. The paint itself is in very good shape other than that. The bike looks very complete with the very rare alloy side panels. Check the photos. they pretty much speak for themselves on overall condition.

I don't know anything about the history of this particular bike. We rescued it from the garage of a passed friend. I don't have papers on it right now but may get some. I'll have to offer it only with a Bill of Sale at this point. The bike runs well. I haven't ridden it but pulled and overhauled the carb and made sure it ran. It started on the third kick after it's long rest and ran clean. revving well. The engine is an early Yamaha 360. I believe to be a MX360. It has the boss in the casting for the automatic compression release but is undrilled. It looks like it may need a shift shaft seal. I topped up the gearbox prior to starting it and it leaves a few drops of oil behind.

Originally this bike would have been fitted with an Italian built clone of a Husky 400 engine. Those had a reputation of being frail. especially in the gearbox department and troublesome even then to get parts for. The Yamaha should be a huge step up in both of those categories. Combined with the handling from the British frame this should make a wonderful and rare vintage racer.
