Yamaha XZ550 Project

Yamaha XZ550 Vision project. I bought this bike earlier this year as a project. It comprises one apparently complete bike (albeit still in bits) plus one spare engine (in several boxes. ). one spare tank and one spare speedo. The story is that the previous owner's father had run this bike for some time as a daily commuter before he had a major engine fault - specifically. blowing a big end bearing.  He took the engine apart. sourced the relevant spare parts. then lost interest in putting it all back together.  Three years later. he sold it to his son (the last owner before me). who bought a replacement engine off eBay in apparently good running order.  He also then lost interest in putting it all back together. so stored it in his garage for the next 18 years. before finally selling it to me in March this year.  Unfortunately. with a Goldwing sitting half-restored on the workbench and still needing a ton of work. I've got little chance of getting to the XZ in the next 12 months. The mileage is uncertain. as there are two speedometers - one showing 14. 37. the second (and the one fixed to the bike) showing 14. 66.  I was advised by the previous owner that he had replaced the first one when it broke with a used one.  He suggested that the true mileage of the bike was around 19. 00 miles. but there is no way I can verify this. The condition overall is surprisingly good for a bike which hasn't been on the road since 24th October 1993 (according to the DVLA). which is probably down to it being stored in a modern. dry garage by the last owner.  The frame has been powder coated. and many parts. such as the radiator. show little corrosion.  The exhaust system. whilst not pretty. is actually in solid condition.  I can't confirm anything about the replacement engine. other than it looks to be in good condition. and comes complete with carbs. The original engine is in bits in several boxes. along with various NOS Yamaha parts (such as bearings. gaskets. etc. ). all in their original unopened packaging. There is a spare tank. bought after the original developed a leak. There is also a full Yamaha Dealer Service Manual and various parts fiches in a couple of binders.  Overall. whilst I can't definitively verify any of the history (except what the DVLA has). the general condition matches the apparent mileage.  I also can't say with absolute certainty that every single nut. bolt and washer is present. though I can't see anything obviously missing.
