Description

Here's a 1978 XS650 Brat/ Cafe Racer I just finished. I was going for a mean looking bike influenced by Bratstyle. Wrenchmonkees. Church of Choppers. etc. I put a lot of time and money into the bike. here's a list:-Custom tail section/ seat- upholstered with marine vinyl over triple density foam for comfort. The tail section continues under the seat and mounts to the tank. and mounts under the rear as well. -New taillight/ Bates headlight with built in hi-low. The bike has front and rear brake switches wired in to actuate the brake lights-Forks lowered 3". pre-load and heavier fork oil added-New clip-on bars. throttle. grips. mirror-New stainless front brake line. front and rear brakes bled-New throttle cable that's been shortened. new clutch cable-New all in one regulator/ rectifier. cloth wiring. ignition-Custom mini fairing-Carbs cleaned and jetted for the pod filters and cut down pipes (baffles have been mostly removed)-New sealed gel battery in a custom battery box-Good clean used tank. perfect inside but has a ding up front and the cap uses a universal key (screwdriver)-Custom fork stops so the clip-ons wouldn't hit the tank-Shortened kickstand with bottom/ catch rod welded onThe bike runs great- I rode it about 40 miles the other week after finishing. I was surprised by it's power- I got 2 unexpected 5'th gear wheelies over some rises on a local mountain road! The tires a in good shape with lots if tread. I left the stock inner fender mounts in case the new owner wanted an inner fender to stop splash up. The starter isn't hooked up so it's kick only but it 's still on the bike. The bike could use a tune up- I put new plugs in and tuned the carbs but didn't do an oil change. It is dripping a little from the oil drain plug but it's surely the crush washer. After the ride the bike wasn't charging the battery. The charging system on these bikes is a notorious weak point. I have a stator from another bike that should fix the problem. and I will try to get it installed before the end of the auction. I left the bike raw/ ratty- the frame has a few different color of paint and the paint on the tins isn't great (I made the paint on the tail section to match the beat up paint on the tank). I figure someone might want to clean/ paint it to their taste. and save a bunch of money in the process. I have the starting bid set low- a lot less than I've seen stock XS650's go for lately. I've included a pic of me sitting on the bike to give you an idea of riding position. It's surprisingly comfortable but keep in mind it's a cafe racer so if you want a bike to ride state to state all day go buy a couch glide. Here's a link to a video of the bike starting/ running. You can see it idles and revs well. And don't be fooled. the bike is a LOT louder in person!http://youtu. be/BcbbmbmtWbII need a paypal deposit of $500 within 3 days of the auction's end. I have the bike listed locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. I'm located in Kingston NY but can deliver the bike within 100 miles for $1 a loaded mile. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I can drop it off at a shipper in the city or North Jersey. I've shipped bikes through there before.
