DescriptionThis is a Custom built motorcycle designed around a Yamaha Virago 920 Engine and final Drive. Finished this year with a custom built title it is legally a 2014 motorcycle built around an 82 engine. Almost every component of this bike was custom made for the application. I am a machinist by trade running manual equipment as well as cnc lathes and milling machines. I learned my composite fabrication skills at NASA Langley Research Center where I worked for 6 years and all the welds were inspected by an aerospace level inspector. apart from inspections. advice and a little bit of welding this bike was manufactured in its entirety by myself. This bike started as an engine and final drive in 2012. The main frame and swingarm were built from 1. 5" cro-moly tubing and 1018 plate. The subframe was made from 308 stainless tubing with custom machined bungs. nds and fittings. The front suspension is from a 2001 GSXR with matching rotors and calipers but with a 2009 GSXR radial master cylinder. Custom CNC billet triple clamps keep the forks on a custom axle to hold the 16x3 Harley front wheel. with the rotors mounted on custom billet adapters. the rear wheel is a 16x3 rim laced to a custom billet hub that fits to the final drive and laced with custom spokes made by Buchanan's. the custom rear hub also allowed the outdated drum brake to be replaced with a rotor and hub off of a CBR. The rearsets were a custom design and made on a CNC machine specifically for this application and made out of 6061 and 7075 as were the other machined aluminum components. The Fly-screen. tank. tail. and undertail were made out of alternating layers of carbon fiber. carbon fiber/kevlar weave and pure kevlar cloth. they were shaped in foam. fiberglass molds were made and then used to make the carbon fiber parts. the tank was sealed with Caswell epoxy tank sealer designed for modern ethanol fuels. and was sealed both before and after the halves were joined for a seamless coverage. The bike is fueled by a Keihin 40mm CV carburetor of a 2001 Harley Sportster with built in accelerator pump and manual choke. The electrical components were tied together with a brand new wiring harness with all new automotive grade connectors and soldered connections. The keyed ignition was done away with and replaced by two in-line waterproof interrupter switches one of which is hidden for security. The bike is powered by an 8 cell Ballistic evo2 battery. has a Koso digital dash. and is lighted by a 8" round headlight in front and high power LED turn signals and tail light. Both rims and hubs were painted with House of Kolors pagan gold paint and top-coated with a 2-part epoxy. The frame components were powder-coated with a black/gold hybrid color called "sunken treasure". the carbon fiber body-work was painted with white basecoat over the sealer/primer. then sprayed with silver pearl before getting several coats of 2-part epoxy clear.
