1977 Yamaha XS650 18,000 orig mile one owner since new very original rare bike

I recently picked this up from an elderly gentleman across town that has been stricken terribly ill. It broke his heart to sell this bike. but had to in order to pay medical bills. He didn't see his health improving enough to ride again so he let it go. He purchased the bike brand new in Kansas City on the Kansas side in 1977 and has been the only owner. The bike has the old style. small original blue and white Missouir title dated 1980 that was issued to him when he payed off his loan. You will get the original title with the bike. the bike also has the original owners manual under the seat and the original tool kit. Also included is the original luggage rack accessory. The bike had sat since 2003. At first in a garage and then later outside under a tarp. The bike is not pristine. but very original. The only modifications he made were aftermarket slip-on mufflers and K&N style air cleaners for which he had the carbs rejetted properly to accept from Yamaha. Upon getting the bike from him. I took it into my shop and pulled the carbs and went through them. He had done a good job of draining the gas before storage so they weren't bad inside. None of the jets were clogged. I cleaned with carb cleaner and blew out the passages and jets with compressed air and reinstalled. Air cleaners looked great and were reinstalled. I drained the gas tank (which was stored full of gas). blew out the tank (95% clean with just a few spots of surface rust inside. nothing to worry about). and filled with fresh gas. I quickly adjusted the timing chain. then removed the spark plugs filed the points to clean them up. finally got some spark. checked the wiring (100% original except for a modern main fuse connector). put a pair of new NGK B8ES plugs in her and she fired on the third kick and with about 1/4 twist down on the idle screw. came to a perfect 850 rpm idle. The headlight. bright light. left and rear blinkers. run and stop lights. horn. instrument lights. speedo and tachometer are working perfectly. It really is an amazing time warp machine. That's it. ready to ride! I took it into work and back (35 miles each way. on a 40 degree day without a single hiccup! This bike is awesome. no smoke. no rattles. smooth. powerful. and sounds awesome. deep but not too loud. The only things that need to be addressed. the front master cylinder will need to be rebuilt or replaced and the front brakes will need to be bled and brought back to life. Rear brake works great. Also at low speed. just off idle the carbs are barely (just a hair) out of sync. I will probably adjust them a tad. but it is barely noticeable. Also the bike looks like it was dropped on it's left side at one point which slightly bent the left front and rear blinkers. There is no other visual damage whatsoever. I have the back blinkers off right now. but they will be included. Lastly the seat will need a new cover. The foam is still supple and will not need to be replaced. just the vinyl cover. Bike comes with two spare keys. The key works the ignition. the gas cap and the seat release. I do not NEED to sell this bike. and will be happy to have it in my collection. The paint is very good but not perfect. Polishing out the paint. aluminum and chrome on this bike and touching up a few brackets and such with some black paint. would give you one VERY NICE original daily rider XS650. There are fewer and fewer all original ones left out there and by many accounts. the 1977 may be the best of the bunch! Here is your chance.
