Yamaha RD500

1984 Yamaha RD500. UK registered. matching numbers. I have had the bike for 3-1/2 years. it had stood in a garden shed for 12 years and I was asked if I wanted to buy it after being given the description over the phone from a person I know very well. I bought it. 11. 72 miles on the clock. When I had it delivered. I put it on a solo starter and it fired up straight away and sounded really crisp!I completely stripped it down. rebuilding the motor. cranks were good and indicated the mileage was genuine. I had the frame powder coated. the footrest hangers powder coated. panels repaired where needed (not much in fairness). new paint. wheels powder coated. new tyres. new chain. new various grommets and other Yamaha parts. Carbs rebuilt. new petrol tap. Forks rebuilt. painted and lacquered. Seat recovered. Switchgear in very good condition. Petrol tank cap is a little rusty. fan switch is broke (just needs new switch lever). no rear grab rail. missing when I bought it. Bottom end cans slightly dinked as you can see and one of the exhausts is scraped but not bad. Motor sounds really good. all in all. a genuine nice RD500. not a concourse restoration but restored to ride to a very good standard.  I very much doubt you will get an RD500 with low mileage like this coming up for sale again. The registration is unique and suits the bike perfectly. A500 MDY!If your'e interested in the bike then you most likely know what they are worth and from the honest description I've given you will also know how much I've spent on it. I'm selling because I have two RD500's and an RZ500 (which I will probably keep. hence the two RD's will go). the other RD500 will be advertised in a couple of weeks.
