Description

One of a kind touring sidecar combination

2005 BMW R1200RT with 2008 Hannigan LT custom sidecar

(Photo taken at Deal's Gap NC)

This is a very capable and sharp rig which really turns heads.

It offers unmatched comfort for both you and your passengers

and is ready to take you across the country or just around the corner with equal ease. The power-to-weight ratio and wide torque band of the BMW boxer engine makes it an ideal bike for towing a sidecar.

I have ridden this rig all over North America from the wilds of Labrador to Key West to the California coast. I would have no hesitation in loading it up and taking off to Alaska tomorrow.

I have tried to be as honest and complete with the description of this vehicle as possible;

this includes the bad and the ugly along with the good.

The sidecaris a 2008 Hannigan LT

This sidecar was specifically styled to perfectly compliment the look of a BMW motorcycle with a kidney-shaped air dam opening and even using a front turn signal from a BMW K12LT. The sidecar was professionally installed by Hannigan Motorsport at their factory using a full custom subframe.

It would cost over $13000 to have a similar sidecar built and installed by Hannigan with all of these options and upgrades!

  • Side window screens in addition to the stock plastic windows ($75)

Sidecar specific modifications to the bike/rig include:

And in the interest of total honesty...

-------------------------- The bad & the ugly: -------------------------- - The bike has a rebuilt title brand. The bike has passed a full safety inspection by a certified state inspector after the original owner slid the bike in a curve and scraped the plastics.

No mechanical/structural damage was done however there are still a few minor cosmetic pieces which show minor marks of that slide.

Both of the saddlebags are sound but they both have some rash from the previous owner's adventure.

I have tried to clearly show these areas in the attached photos and in the photo gallery link.

- This rig has been used year-round including some dirt & gravel roads. There are various rock chips in the paint (touch up paint bottle included). The air dam on the sidecar is solid but does have a few scrapes and one crack from a low driveway entrance. The air dam is still very solid and looks decent unless you get up close so I never bothered with it.

As you can see from the photos it still looks very good in a general walk-around only showing up when you examine it more closely.

- Also due to some winter driving there is some visible surface rust on the mounting struts/hardware. All sidecar mounts were installed with anti-seize paste to protect them as well as all the fasteners on the bike/sidecar whenever maintenance was done. Even the exposed threads on the sidecar struts were coated and covered with rubber to protect them from weather and road debris.

This bike has reliably carried me to places which required carrying extra fuel and would not hesitate to do so again.

But if you want a concourse bike this may not be the one for you.

Additional Notes:

- I have maintained a log of the maintenance tire usage/wear fuel usage and more in a spreadsheet which I am willing to make available to the buyer or those who are seriously interested.

- Buyer has the option of selecting between standard or low heated driver seat and choice of stock windshield or large Cee-Bailey shield.

- In addition to the original exhaust which is currently on the bike I have a new take-off exhaust system which the buyer can have included for no additional cost.

- I also have a list of optional (at extra cost) accessories and spare parts available to add to this great rig.
