Â
You are bidding on a unique motorized bike (moped) built with inspiration from the vintage Board Track Racers. but with a modern twist.
Frame – The frame is a purpose-built all aluminum frame with the top tube enlarged into a sleek gas tank. with horizontal track drop-outs for proper chain tension adjustment. Â The frame has been modified extensively with a motor mount and jackshaft. Â The frame was sanded with progressively finer grit until glass-smooth. then scuffed with super fine ScotchBrite pads for a satin finish. then clear-coated with semi-gloss urethane. Â The front fork is an uber-rare Girvin four-link MTB fork. that has been completely disassembled. cleaned and rebuilt with the same finish treatment as frame.
Engine – Why settle for one of those anemic and annoying little Chinese two-strokes (which every other builder seem to think is just fine) when you can have the grunt of a four-stroke? Â All aluminum (steel cylinder sleeve). OHV. 89cc (I think) putting out 2. 5 HP of fury. Â Starts first or second pull. every time. Â Custom made header makes all the right sounds and the throttle linkage works flawlessly.
Build Details - Seat is 1940’s vintage which has been sandblasted. painted and re-covered with buttery smooth distressed leather over new padding. Â Cantilever brakes are top-of-the-line Shimano XTR. and wheels are bomb-proof with disc-specific hubs that allow for the rear drive sprocket to be directly mounted. Â (No rubber flangy thing clamped to spokes here!)Â Brakes are operated by dual-pull lever on leftside handlebar and work phenomenally well. Â Both sprockets on rear wheel hub have been drilled for lightness. Â The jackshaft was installed to achieve correct chain alignment and for gear reduction. Â It took many. many. many attempts of gear swapping before I achieved the combination that offered the perfect balance between speed and torque. Â It will climb steep grades with ease and hit a top speed of 40ish. Â Unfortunately. the massive 26x2. 3” balloon tires were never designed to go that fast and you will feel a noticeable vibration at 35+mph. Â I suppose you could try and balance the wheels by attaching counter-weights. but I don’t have the patience for that.
I built it because I wanted something fun to toodle around the pits during events at the race track.  I wanted a board track racer. but everything I looked it was a crappy steel bike with Chinese two-cycle engine. a lousy paint job and an Indian decal on the oversized gas tank.  No thanks.  So. I made my own.  This one rides like a Cadillac with the suspended front fork and cruiser seat. Engine is stone-cold reliable with extremely low mileage (less than 20 miles).  It was very time-consuming to design and build. and consequently. it’s a one-off creation. I will not build another.   Reason for selling? Not so practical when you are trying to haul a 5 gallon jug of race fuel!
Title - This bike does NOT have a title because bicycles aren't issued titles. Â I would be happy to give you a Bill of Sale if that makes you feel better. Â Also. it does not need to be registered and you don't need a license to ride it on the street as motorized bikes are treated same as mopeds. Â That's the law in Illinois. you might want to check on the laws in your own home state before bidding.
Please study the photos closely. Â All questions will be answered.
Shipping - Due to the size and weight of the bike. I WILL NOT SHIP. Â You will need to arrange to have it picked up. Â I can drain the gas and oil and partially disassemble it and strap it to a pallet if you insist. but I will NOT be responsible for any damage that may occur during shipping and reassembly. Â Â Also. it is YOUR responsibility to arrange. and pay for. transport if you don't pick it up yourself.
Terms of Sale - No warranties. express or implied. Â Sold As-Is-Where-Is. Â No returns. Â But you will NOT be disappointed. Â The Buyer required to pay $500 within 48 hours of end of auction (or Buy-It-Now) and balance on or before date of pick-up. Â Bike must be picked up within two weeks (14 days) from end of auction.
