Description

2004 Honda CRF 250 R - four strokeI bought this bike from Meredith Motocross in May 2006 (I still have the receipt) and am the second owner.  The chap who owned the bike prior to me had only used it a handful of times. and since I have owned her. she has had a very easy life cruising around the practice tracks of south west England and one brief season of racing in the MX2 Junior over 18 class of the AMCA in 2009.  I am selling the bike owing to lack of use having only ridden it 3 times in the last 2 years.  As an estimate. the bike has a total of around 40-50hrs use I would say.   Maintenance:  I have been fastidious about the usuals - changed the air filters after every ride. sometimes twice in dusty conditions. and the oil after every other ride.  The bike is on its third piston. this was changed about 1. 5hr ride time ago. and is an OEM Honda piston.  I have also recently had the exhaust valves changed and the valve clearances set at V-Ten Motorcycles in Thornbury at great cost as the compression was running a bit low. however. the bike now runs like a dream and kicks first or second time from cold.   The suspension was set up a couple of years ago for me via Thornbury MX.   For reference I am 6ft 2" and 13. 5 stone in weight.  Clearly this is easily adjustable so could be set for any rider height/weight within reason. The bike is completely standard from a mechanical perspective. apart from having a couple of extra 'nice to haves' such as a Works Connection alloy sump guard. practically a brand new a Zeta unbreakable clutch lever and custom graphics.   Foibles:  Being brutally honest. I fell off once and managed to slightly bend one of the radiators slightly out of shape. The rad doesn't leak and functions perfectly well. the only bother being that the bottom bolt of the respective rad scoop won't bolt into place so it is secured using cable ties.  I must stress that this is merely a cosmetic issue. it does not affect the performance or handling of the bike in any way and is barely noticeable.  This would be easily remedied with a new radiator. and looking on eBay you can buy a new pair for about ?70.  Personally I never bothered as it wasn't ?70 well spent in my eyes. which considering how much I care for the bike speaks volumes.  The new owner may wish to refresh the chain and sprocket and possibly the front brake pads. If I'm honest. the tyres are part worn. but are still perfectly tractable.  The bike will come with 4 spare part worn tyres; 3 front and 1 rear. and are a mixture of Michellin and Maxxis. Also included in the sale is a box of spare plastics. most of which were on the bike when I bought it. and also a box of bit which includes various nuts and bolts. Acerbis handguards. chain lube. oils. spare air filter. front disc cover. dB Dawg to reduce the noise output and an air box cover and exhaust plug for when you are giving her a hose down.  The bike will also come with the bog standard jack stand as seen in the pics. Overall the bike is in excellent condition for its age.  I frequently receive compliments from other riders saying it's a great looking bike and they can't quite believe it stems from 2004.  Naturally there is a bit of wear and tear. but nothing other than as one would expect for a 10 year old bike.  That said. and as I mentioned further up the page. the bike has had a relatively easy life which can be evidenced by the lack of wear and tare on the gearbox and clutch covers.   Realistically. the bike would be perfect for someone getting into the sport or moving up to a bigger bike from the 85/150 class.  However. not wishing to restrict my audience. the bike would still be very competitive in the right hands i. e. without myself behind the handlebars. as it goes like a youthful bunny rabbit.   I absolutely love my bike. so I'm absolutely devastated to be selling her; it's a day I never thought I'd see.  However. there comes a point in a man's life where the motorbikes. fast cars. yachts. dates with super models and Friday night's in Walkabout and Reflex. followed by a chicken shish kebab have to be put to one side to make way for bricks and mortar.  I'm not in any rush to sell the bike. however. I am open to sensible offers.  So please no canvassers. daft offers. test riders or tyre kickers and definitely no criminals. jokers or dirty wizards. If you are interested then please send me an email and I will provide you with my mobile number on request so we can have a chat and arrange a viewing.  One thing I will stipulate is that the buyer collects the bike as there's no way I'm paying for a courier.   I reserve the right to withdraw this advert at any time as I have the bike advertised elsewhere.
