This 1986 Kawasaki EX250R Ninja was supplied new to former AMA Pro Racer & AMA Hall of Fame member Gary Nixon for the 1986 running of the La Carrera road race. It was run from San Felipe to Ensenada, 140 mile distance. Nixon, former Triumph and Kawasaki factory sponsored race, as one a select group of riders Kawasaki enlisted to boost sales in the USA. He still owned the bike at the time of his passing in 2011.
Longtime friend and fellow racer Bob Sholly was entrusted to auction off the Nixon estate contents. I purchased this motorcycle at that estate sale in York, A along with his trophies and other memorabilia related to Nixon's La Carrera adventures. All are included with the bike as well as Nixon Estate Bill of Sale.
The bike was in sad shape when I bought it, ut we spent some time and effort to put it right again but keeping the focus on originality. This motorcycle has had its original engine rebuilt in 2014. As per Gary's choice, he shifter is still set up in 'race pattern'. The right side rear turn signal is still zip tied in place after Gary had dropped the bike and made a hasty repair. Nixon put an impressive 15,000 miles on the bike during his ownership and would tell all who would listen that a 250cc bike was all you really needed for the street. This bike runs well and is ready to ride.
This is a rare opportunity to possess a motorcycle owned the late, reat racer. Nixon rose to fame on the AMA Flat track Grand National series and was the subject of the Joe Scalzo book, Racer: The story of Gary Nixon", e also was an accomplished road racer, inning the Daytona 200 on a Triumph and nearly winning the FIM 750 World Championship in 1976 in a Kawasaki. Nixon was a unique individual, real fan favorite. He was truly a racer's racer.
