AJS Model 20 500cc Twin. Chassis No 85921. Engine No 52/2012378. When I first aquired the bike on 30/01/09 it was a non runner and was fitted with the Matchless G9 Crankcases; Engine No 55/G926349. (Matchless G9 and AJS Model 20 engine components are interchangeable from the 1950's. Upon inspection the engine was found to have 2 pushrods missing and when these were replaced the engine ran faultlessly with no knocks. attles or smoke. However. I then found that although the oil was circulating as it should. no oil was getting to the top of the engine to feed the rockers and I can only assume that this was a previous problem whereby the rockers had tightened up with no lubrication thus damaging the missing pushrods. I never rode the bike and stripped the engine. never getting round to rebuilding it. The engine is 100% complete but the camshaft lobes are quite badly worn but the ones in the AJS engine are perfect. It could also do with a new set of big end bearing shells. There is also some fin damage on the barrels. The SPARE ENGINE which has the original AJS Crankcases. 52/2012378 comes with crankshaft. centre bearing web. oil pumps. rocker boxes. cylinder heads. "complete" timing cover. camshafts and camwheels. inlet manifold. barrels and pistons. Some fin damage on barrels. The reg no has been valued at £1000. The chrome in the photos may look better than in real life. If you require further details I will be glad to assist. Payment on collection
